An expert has sparked a discussion after revealing the average length of a round of intercourse.

The age ol' debate - how long should sex last?

It's no secret that our opinions have been warped by multiple factors including the p*rnography industry as well as some little white lies that may spread through word of mouth, but now we've finally got answers.

Appearing on Steven Bartlett's 'Diary of a CEO' podcast, three experts in the field, surgeon Dr. Rena Malik, psychiatrist Dr. Alok Kanojia, and adult film director Erika Lust, all came together to give us a reality check on the matter and let's just say, it was pretty refreshing to hear.

"If you look at the average [length] of sexual intercourse, it's three to seven minutes," Dr. Kanojia explained, before going on to state that 50 percent of women he'd spoken to don't want sex for "more than 15 minutes" for a various number of reasons.

He then went on to compare this to the length of adult films where this interaction can actually last up to three to five times longer.

"I see a lot of body dysmorphia," he continued. "It's like getting to that level in both men and women unrealistic expectations about body unrealistic expectations about performance that creates shame."

"There's just a lot of bad information out there," the psychiatrist added.

Dr. Malik also had some thoughts on the situation, explaining that the length of intercourse can depend on the time it takes for a person to climax.

She said that on average men take between five to six minutes, while women may need up to 14 minutes before they can reach their peak.

People seemingly had strong opinions on the matter.

"I am not an expert but all I can say, it usually depends on your schedule, mood, the purpose, overall style plus whether that’s your significant partner or just casual which can then vary depending on experience," wrote one person while another added: "It should be as long as you both enjoy it for. That could be over 2 hours or 3 minutes."

A third stated: "Toaster time... once my bread is ready for a sandwich... I’m done!"

And this one person had their personal grievances to talk about: "It lasts until you put a ring on it."

Big yikes...

According to some studies that have delved into the matter in more detail, the average length of intercourse can last anywhere between 33 seconds and 44 minutes, with the average coming in at around five and a half minutes in total.

Other factors such as cultural norms, including guidelines from medical professionals, foreplay (or the lack of it), as well as gender satisfaction can influence sexual expectations and play a role in how satisfied a person is during their involvement in intercourse.

In a separate interview on the same podcast, Dr. Malik also put a lot of people's fear about their penis length to rest after revealing that the average length of a shaft is actually between 5.1 to 5.3 inches.

She also pointed out that men tend to think it's bigger than it actually is, explaining that they think it comes in about six inches.

But after studying which sex toys are the most popular among women, it was discovered that they prefer around the average length of a normal penis rather than anything bigger.

If there's anything all this research has taught us, we should ditch the attempts to become the next Johnny Sins and just try and enjoy ourselves in the moment, am I right?
