In a desperate bid to lose weight, a woman has gone to lengths arguably more extreme than injecting herself with chemicals.
Rachel Ashby, 41, explained to VT the drastic changes she made to her diet that helped her lose five stone, clear her skin and stop her from blacking out at the gym, and vegans won’t be happy about it.
The mom-of-four cut out every food group except animal products seven and a half years ago, and is adamant that the carnivore diet has changed her life after she lost 56 pounds.
Since making the switch to only eating meat, Rachel no longer feels hungry throughout the day and has managed to build more muscle than she ever did on other diets, but her meal plans sound like they were written by a zookeeper.
Explaining her diet, the certified carnivore coach and founder of beef-based beauty product brand Tallow Glow, said: “On a normal day, it would be the 10 eggs in the morning, then lunch could be a kilo of chicken wings, and then in the evening it could be a slow-cooked beef or pork joint, which is cooked in butter.”
As we all know, meat is often the most expensive part of a food shop, so much so that the price of it is what drives people to vegetarianism; however, Rachel claims that her diet is more cost-efficient than the average shopper.
Rachel revealed: “For me, it saves money, because you can buy in bulk. I go to an online butcher's and buy a big slab of ribeye, and then I cut that up myself, and it works out so much cheaper, like maybe two, three pounds per steak, instead of it being six to eight to fifteen pounds per steak.”
She also claims that it has not been at all difficult to maintain at social occasions “because normally the meat is the easiest part of the dish”
Recalling a friend’s birthday dinner a few years ago, Rachel said: “I just got loads of meat, and then I ate lots, and then I ate everyone else's meat that they didn't eat as well.”
Moments after consuming a mammoth amount of meat, a friend, who had been vegan for several years, asked why she didn’t look bloated. Rachel responded with: “Meat doesn't bloat you like that you can just eat as much as you want.
Shockingly, the fitness influencer with 31.6 thousand followers said: “The next time I saw her, she was trying out the carnivore diet, and she's been doing it ever since.”
No longer feeling or looking bloated is far from the only positive change that's happened to Rachel’s body since cutting out carbs and veg.
She claims: “It's completely changed my life, the quality of life. I had dandruff for years and years. I tried to go to all different hairdressers over the years to say, how can I get rid of it? And nothing worked. But when I did this diet, it just went away, and it never came back.
“Also, I had constant breakouts; my skin, I used to have to take concealer anywhere. I didn't wanna leave the house without concealer or anything. And now I don't wear makeup."
The most significant improvement Rachel has noticed is in the gym. As an avid fitness fanatic and coach, she has found that a meat-only diet has helped her gain muscle mass and maintain her energy throughout workouts.
She added: “Obviously, it changed my body composition. I'm much happier with my body composition now. It's reversed a lot of ageing as well; people tell me I look better now in my forties than in my twenties.”
Rachel now works as a carnivore coach, guiding other people through the diet and has her own range of beauty products with beef tallow, which have incredible reviews.
