A new survey has explored the sex positions women enjoy the most, with the findings suggesting emotional connection and comfort often matter more than the hypersexualized coital exchanges popularized in the media and online.
Pornography has warped our perception of sexual ‘norms’, from where it takes place and who it’s with, to how it is ultimately carried out — the depictions have become increasingly experimental, and in some cases, illegal.
The research, conducted by Seduced AI, analysed responses from 2,590 women across the UK and the US to better understand female sexual preferences.
According to a spokesperson for the company, many people place unrealistic expectations on themselves and their partner because of what they see online.
“There is a big difference between what people see in porn and what actually feels good in bed,” the spokesperson explained.
“A lot of people try to recreate it and feel like they’re doing something wrong. Trying out new kinks is always exciting, but the pleasure and comfort of all people involved should be a priority.”
The January 2026 report found that women were more likely to enjoy partnered sex when emotional intimacy, communication, and eye contact played a central role.
“Positions that require flexibility, stamina, or specific body types shouldn't be the standard everyone tries to match,” the spokesperson added. “Different bodies have different comfort zones, and that's completely normal.”
They continued: “When both people feel heard and comfortable enough to adjust what isn't working, sex life and romantic life both get better. That's the difference between performing for an imaginary audience and actually enjoying what you’re doing here and now.”
The survey found that missionary was the most popular choice overall, with 10 percent of women naming it as their preferred position.
Respondents said the face-to-face nature of the position helped create a stronger emotional connection, while small adjustments, such as using pillows for support, could also increase comfort and pleasure.
Doggy style ranked as the second most popular position, chosen by 9 percent of respondents.
While it involves less eye contact, participants described it as “highly satisfying,” with many saying the physical sensations made up for the reduced intimacy.
Receiving oral sex was the third most popular preference, selected by 7.2 percent of women surveyed, ranking above several other sex positions.
Many respondents said they enjoyed being able to “focus on receiving stimulation and pleasure” without feeling pressure to reciprocate at the same time, allowing them to fully relax and enjoy the experience.
The survey concluded that, despite how sex is often portrayed in mainstream media, many women prioritize comfort, connection, and communication over overly elaborate experiences.
