Relationship experts have shared many pointers on identifying a cheater in the past, from changes in behavior to half-hearted excuses about their whereabouts.
But now, it seems that cheaters have evolved to find new ways to get away with their infidelity, in a clever new method.
In fact, the tricky new technique has been described as the "perfect way to cheat" by one expert as more people catch on to using a particular app.
While many on social media have been left gobsmacked by it, podcasters have started to bring attention to the application, which we all have on our phones.
Not As We Planned podcast hosts Tash and Carly have explained how the Notes app could be dangerous for those in relationships.
The former chillingly explained: "If you suspect your partner is cheating, you don’t need to go into their WhatsApp, you don’t need to go into their Snapchat, you don’t need to go into their emails, you need to go into their notes - into their shared notes."
The podcast host went on, adding that Apple's shared notes feature can be used to send and receive flirty messages with a secret lover, while keeping it hidden.
Tash highlighted the scary part, pointing out that "there are no notifications and no trace."
While you may scoff at the claims, private detective Paul Evans, from I-Spy Detectives, said he has seen how sneaky cheaters can be, and how they will take advantage of this new method.
Speaking to Metro, the detective admitted that he has seen it all, stating: "Cheaters are deceitful by nature, so they will always find a way to cover their tracks."
He then started to highlight the dangers that the notes app represents, saying: "Using the notes app is perfect for them, because normal people like you or I wouldn’t think to use it as a messaging platform."
Evans has caught cheaters using this little-known method in the past, as "there isn’t an obvious trail you would get from a normal messaging app, and message dates or times can be deleted without a trail."
Unless cheaters become careless and stop covering their tracks, it can be hard to catch them in the act with the notes app.
You can easily delete the evidence, close the app, and go back to your life once you're finished.
Explaining that some may go the extra mile to hide exchanges, Evans said: "For example, a person may have an innocent shopping list in their notes app, but one item on that list could be a code word for a location, and a number could be the time that they plan to meet.
"To anyone looking at this, they wouldn’t suspect a thing, but to the people involved, it hides the conversation in plain sight."
Others may use a "shared calendar" or a "fake email account," but the private detective said that, above all, there is one thing you should be wary of - a behavior change.
Apparently, this is the easiest way to catch someone in the act, as Evans said: "If they become protective over their phone, their routine changes, or all of a sudden they start to take more care in their appearance, then alarm bells should start to ring.
"My advice to anyone who suspects their partner is cheating is not to start snooping through their phone, but monitor their behaviour and then start asking direct questions."
He urged people who are curious to avoid "snooping through their phone," but instead to monitor behavior and "ask direct questions."
You'd know better than anyone if "something doesn't match up," which could suggest that they are hiding something.
Obviously, if screen time on their notes app skyrockets, it could be a giveaway that they are speaking to someone they shouldn't be.

If you suspect your partner is cheating on you, you could say "cheatersayswhat" and see if they say "what?" back. But there's a better way. All you have to do is pay attention to how they use their phone.
If you're one of those annoying "moral" people, you don't feel comfortable snooping on your partner's cell, secretly reading their texts and scanning through their missed calls. Well, good news, goody two shoes. You don't have to resort to violating someone's privacy to figure out if they're unfaithful.
Here are five red flags on your partner's phone that show they might be cheating.
1. They won't share their password.
Let's say a situation comes up where you forgot your phone, or it's dead, or it was plucked out of your hand by a hungry falcon. You grab your partner's phone and ask for the password, and instead of giving it to you, your partner insists on personally unlocking the screen. Why? Is your partner hiding something? Does your partner not trust you? And why are falcons such jerks?
2. They get push notifications from dating apps
If your partner gets a notification that they "have a new match" on Tinder, or "have a new message" from someone on OKCupid, or "scheduled a bone session" on OneNightStander, that should be a little concerning. Yeah, we all forget to turn off push notifications from time to time. For example, I downloaded a daily quiz show app a month ago, have only played it twice, and still haven't turned off the notifications. But if you're in a serious relationship, it's assumed you won't still be prowling on dating apps. Especially OneNightStander.
3. They don't take calls in front of you
We all take private calls sometimes, but if your partner's making a habit of taking private calls, then your partner might be making a habit of calling someone to get in their privates.
4. They never leave their phone unattended
Many of us are hopelessly addicted to our phones, checking the same websites ad nauseam, playing silly games very seriously and hoping for a new text message like a present from Santa on Christmas morning. But at the same time, everyone leaves their phone unattended once in a while. If your partner clutches their phone like Gollum clutched The One Ring, it's fair to wonder why your partner thinks their phone is so preciousssss.
5. The background is a photo of them with someone else
This one should be pretty obvious. I mean, look, it's normal for your partner for have friends. Group photos are cool. A photo of your partner with a family member, cool. A photo of your partner with a celebrity, like John Krasinski or Emily Blunt, cool. But if the background photo is of them with a person who is a potential candidate for dating, not cool. That's a bit weird. Especially if they're getting all touchy-feely and it could double as an engagement pic.
If you see any of these red flags, you should talk to your partner and see what's going on. Maybe your partner is cheating on you, or maybe it was all just one big understanding. At least now you have some tools to find out without violating their privacy. And if this doesn't work, you can always saying, "cheatersayswhat."
A TikToker has gone viral after sharing a simple hack to find out if your partner is being unfaithful - and not everyone is sold on it.
A user with the handle @aurielouisse posted a video in which she opens the sun visor on the passenger side of her boyfriend's car and slides the mirror so that it is halfway open.
The post was captioned: "How to know if he’s seeing someone LOL, #hack."
Watch the video below:The idea is that if the visor mirror has been used by another person, that person will most likely close it when they're done with it, which supposedly suggests that the partner of the person in the driver seat is being cheated on.
The video has since racked up over 4 million views, more than 217,000 likes, and over a thousand comments.
It has proved quite divisive, with some believing it to be a clever hack but a majority slamming the trick as deceitful and intrusive.
One person argued: "1. Boys use mirrors too 2. His mom or sister or someone from his family could’ve used it 3. He might of [sic] used it 4. If u can’t trust him then break up."
Another said: "If there is no trust, there is no relationship."
A third commented: "It's his car 2. If there's no trust no relationship. 3. Did you know some mothers use the mirrors in their child's car."
A fourth wrote: "I'm a boy and I use the mirrors. And also while you're driving, it can shift back closed."
A fifth shared: "What ever [sic] happened to trust? Or if you have that much of an issue, just talk to him. If you can't simply ask then there's something wrong."
What are your thoughts on the hack? Does it show a lack of trust in the relationship or is it a genius tip for those of us who suspect our other halves of infidelity? Let us know in the comments!

Cheating is a devastating revelation in any relationship, and these days, there are more ways than ever to discover if your partner has done the dirty on you.
Case in point, this man, who claims that he caught his girlfriend "cheating" after a close inspection of the reflection in her eyes.
TikTok user Sam Nunn, who uses the handle @samnunn4, made the revelation on TikTok, where people have been sharing the ways they discovered they were being cheated on as a part of a viral trend.
He took to the app to share footage of a woman who appears to be his girlfriend using a dating app in his company.
Watch the footage below:

As the video above shows, he films the woman then zooms in on her eyes, which show her swiping through the profiles of various other men on a dating app like Tinder.
Alongside a sad emoji, Sam captioned the video: "thought she had fun baking cookies today #f*cklove"
Needless to say, after implying that the reflection is evidence that his girlfriend is cheating, many social media users were sympathetic.
"Can you record a video of you kicking her out?" one user said.
"If she can lay beside you and swipe through that app without a second thought, she's done this before. You deserve better," another wrote.
Meanwhile, a third simply wrote: "it was only through her eyes did he see the truth."
However, not everyone believed that the video was what it appeared to be.
Another TikTok user wrote: "WHAT KIND OF PHONE IS THIS MY GUY!? The iPhone 25!?!"
A second similarly implied that no phone would be capable of showing such a strong reflection, writing: "That Samsung Galazy S20 Ultra 5G does have one hell of a zoom."
A third simply implied that it was all a setup, writing: "So you got that close to her and she didn't close out the page???? Seams [sic] a little fishy to me."
What do you think of the video? Do you think this guy was really able to see his girlfriend cheating from the reflection in her eyes?

A woman discovered that her husband was cheating on her after seeing a clue on a fitness app.
Long gone are the days of following your other half around in disguise when they're starting to act a little sketchy, now you can catch them in the act straight from your phone.
And no, I'm not talking about stalking them on Instagram or outing them on your Snapchat when you see a username you've never seen before - things are much more complex than that now.
A woman claimed that she found out her now ex-husband was seeing a side chick through the fitness social media app, Strava.
"I figured out my ex-husband was cheating on me through Strava," she announced to her followers on TikTok in a viral video that has been viewed over 2.1 million times.
"Strava is a social media app where friends can follow each other and share their workouts with each other," Mcgee continued. "You can go on a run, a swim or a hike and post it to your Strava, and it will share with all of your Strava friends."
Of course, she and her husband followed each other on the app, but what her cheating partner failed to remember was the fact that if your account is set to public, it shares data with all of your followers - data that can clearly expose you if you're cheating - including a map of your fitness routes.
"When he first came home from deployment he wasn’t really going into to work a lot, so there were a lot of days he would go on runs," she recalled while baking banana bread in her kitchen. "There were times that I offered to go on runs with him, and he would make up some excuse about how he was going to run too far for me [or that] I wouldn’t be able to keep up."
A lame excuse if I ever did hear one.
However, things got really suspicious after her partner randomly woke up and decided he would be taking a "break" from their relationship.
"This is when I started digging in and saying something bigger must be going on here," said Mcgee and after a bit of snooping, she was disappointed to discover that she was right.
"What I ended up finding through [his] Strava running maps was that he would start his 'run' at our house and he would end it at her house," McGee said while sharing a screenshot of her ex's jog trail. "She lived probably a half of a mile away."
"So while this didn’t tell me the whole story," continued McGee. "It sure gave me a lot of reassurance about who he was cheating on me with and what he was doing all those times he was gone."
Have a look at the full video below:
Of course, TikTokers were outraged, but also impressed by McGee's investigation.
"Smart move right there. That’s impressive (and drop that bb recipe pls)," wrote one user, while another questioned: "But the fact that you knew the house means you knew this woman and where she lived, correct? So was this one of his or your friends?"
The betrayed lover replied to the comment confirming that the assumption was in fact correct.
A third also brought up a classic stereotype: "The second you said 'deployment' I knew been there done that."
Others also shared their own stories of betrayal.
"I found mine because of Alexa. Found the drunken midnight grocery list with her laughing at his mispronunciations while in my home. Super fun!" wrote one person.
And this user also had a wild story writing: "I found out through out grocery store app. I saw that he was making purchases for items we didn’t have at a grocery store no were near our home."
This TikTok user also recalled: "I found out my ex cheated on me when the Airbnb host left a review about how 'he and Martha' were such great guests. My name isn’t Martha."
I hope y'all were making notes from this because I sure as hell have.

Back in ye olde days, it must have been really easy to have a fling with someone. All you'd have to do is make some excuse about needing to do something a few dozen miles away, saddle up your horse, and neglect to include details of the raunchy affair when you wrote home to your spouse.
In 2018, however, there's no chance of that.
People are always Whatsapping and Facebooking and Instagramming and lord knows what else - and any change in that kind of routine (especially between couples) always raises suspicion. What's more, because of how often we take selfies and other pictures of our surroundings, it's so much easier to leave a trail of evidence for things that we might otherwise not want people to see.
So, when one guy had an inkling that his girlfriend, Jackie, might have been messing around behind his back, he made sure to pay very close attention to the messages she sent him. And, sure enough, she slipped up.
The conversation started in a fairly normal (albeit slightly naughty) way, with Jackie sending her bf a sneaky little picture of herself in the bathroom, along with an excuse about why she was texting late.
So far, so plausible. But then it gets a little more suspect.
Jackie's boyfriend texts her back asking for another naughty picture (and, really, can you blame the guy?) but what he gets back is a little more than he bargained for.
Something in the second picture sets off alarm bells in the boyfriend's head. Have you spotted what it is?
If you avert your eyes from the nudey lady for long enough, you'll notice there's a suitcase in the bottom left-hand corner. Now, to you or I, this doesn't seem suspect at all; Jackie has gone travelling, so why wouldn't she bring her case with her?
Well, the thing is... that's not her case. And Jackie's boyfriend knows it.
Nevertheless, Jackie tries to brush off his line of questioning as casually as she can - with a dirty pic thrown in for good measure, of course.
To argue her case further, Jackie prompts her boyfriend to call the hotel and ask to be put through to room 1422. What she doesn't count on, though, is that he'll give her name to the receptionist.
And this is where it starts to get super cringe-worthy.
Ooooh someone's been rumbled! Should've gone with the traditional sext instead of the modern-day nude, eh Jackie?
But it didn't end there. Jackie's boyfriend then went all out and sent her this absolute slam-dunk of a text chain:
So folks, the lesson here is obvious: don't send nudes. Ha, just kidding, nudes are great. No, the real lesson here is that you shouldn't cheat on your other half.
Or, if you're going to anyway: don't send them any evidence of your infidelity.
Ha, no - kidding again. Seriously, though, don't go messing around behind your partner's back. Otherwise, it could be you coming home to a lawn full of trash bags and a story about you on VT. So unless you want me joking about your nudes, I'd take my advice.
