A man's tattoo tribute for his girlfriend is causing serious debate online after footage of it being done was shared by the tattoo artist.

Whether or not couples should get tribute tattoos for one another is always a contentious topic - some think it's the ultimate way to declare their everlasting love, while others think getting a partner's name or likeness tattooed on them is a big no-no.

After all, what happens if the relationship ends up not working out? That leaves the person with a costly cover-up or a painful removal to get rid of the last reminder of the boyfriend or girlfriend that got away.

However, one man went even further than most with his tattoo for his girlfriend - by getting the outline of her bite marks inked on his arm.

See the process below:

No, your eyes are not deceiving you - that really is his girlfriend's dental imprint he just had inked on his flesh forever.

The video, which was shared on TikTok by Betty Zoo Tattoo, saw the man's girlfriend lean down to bite the outside of his bicep, before the artist carefully drew around the outlines left by her teeth.

Clearly liking the outcome, the man decided to go ahead with the ink and have his loved one's dental records etched onto him for life.

Once the tattoo was finished, a clear outline of his lady's upper and lower bite was visible om the outside of his arm - but people viewing the video had some thoughts about his choice of ink.

One commented: "This is foul," while another just added: "Literally why."

Others wrote: "What happens when you break up?", "Sorry what da hell", and: "What in the forensic files?"

Another joked: "I’d be so pressed if my bf had his exs bite mark on him," while someone else pointed out: "Me picturing all the bacteria from the bite being pushed into the skin and him getting one hella infection."

One user asked a very good question: "Plz tell me how you explained this to ur mother," while someone else joked: "What in the Twilight."

While we're sure his girlfriend didn't bite him hard enough to break the skin, just leave a few dents, and we're sure the tattoo artist gave it a good wipe with antibacterial solution, getting a tattoo over the place someone's sunk their teeth into your arm is probably a pretty bad idea.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, human bites can be more dangerous than many people expect as germs in the saliva can increase the risk of infection, adding: "A wound may appear minor, but a bacterial infection can lead to more severe infections and complications."

One thing's for sure - we're fairly certain this tattoo is one of a kind.
