A woman has been praised online after she stood up for herself and refused to swap her pre-planned vacation days so a coworker could take their children to Disney World.
Going on vacation is one of life's simple pleasures as working tirelessly through the year is rewarded by taking some time off to just relax and see new places.
Depending on where you're from and who you work for, vacation days can be few and far between so are rightfully treasured by those who have them.
A TikToker named Evie has won some fans after she posted a video explaining that she refused to swap her vacation days so a coworker could take their kids on a last-minute trip to Disney.
Speaking in the video, Evie said: "I worked with this woman, let’s call her Karen, who had two kids. And I also just want to mention that, until this incident, she and I had gotten along perfectly fine."
The TikToker explained that she had moved across states to take this job and that she wanted to go home over the Christmas break to see her family, and she had booked it off "months in advance" and had even sent her boss follow-up emails confirming that it was happening.
Evie said that a week before the scheduled break, she was very excited and her family was expecting her at home, but then her boss requested a meeting.
"My boss calls me into his office and he’s like, ‘Hey Evie, listen, I know you were planning to take off for vacation, but I talked to Karen and she decided that she really wants to take her kids to Disney World over the break."
Evie was then asked if she could "find it in her heart" to let her co-worker have the days off, and she believes the boss was siding with the mother as he had kids of his own.
The TikToker explained that she searched her heart and wasn't able to agree that she should give up her week off.
Bizarrely, Evie was instructed to break the news to her coworker herself. "I walked right up to her desk, and I was like, listen Karen, I just talked to Bob and I know he said that you wanted to take your kids and for me to give you my week, but I’m sorry, I’m just not going to do that," she explained.
She was met with a tirade of accusations from her coworker, who told her that she wouldn't "understand love like this" as she wasn't a mother.
Safe to say those who viewed the video were on Evie's side, as one person wrote: "Why is Karen acting like she won’t see her kids unless she goes to Disney world. Do they live there?"
A second added: "As a parent I would NEVER expect someone else (parent or not) to give up a day off. Plan ahead people."
We hope that Evie had a lovely Christmas break with her family.

An employee found himself in a difficult position when his boss told him to cancel his vacation, and he offered the perfect response.
Vacation days are one of the simple pleasures in life - you work hard all year round and then get to ignore work for a little while, maybe even in a different country.
As a boss, a quick way to get into your employee's bad books is by agreeing to vacation requests and then taking them back at the last minute.
For any bosses out there... don't do that.

In this instance, the text exchange between the employee, identified as Noel, and his boss, Nick, has sparked outrage online after being shared by Michael Sanz, a business owner and outsourcing expert who often hears about workers' experiences with difficult bosses.
In the viral conversation posted on TikTok, Nick informed Noel that his scheduled time off for the following week had been canceled due to another staff member resigning. Nick claimed it would be "all hands on deck" while they searched for a replacement.
"We can push back a few months. I’ve advised HR it’s now changed for you. Appreciate your understanding," Nick wrote, seemingly without considering Noel's prior commitments.
Reacting to the exchange, Sanz commented in the video: "This guy sounds like a tool. He’s automatically canceling leave without any conversation."
Noel explained in his response that he couldn't cancel his leave as he had already made arrangements for his brother's wedding in Bali, with flights and family commitments booked seven months in advance.
Despite this, Nick audaciously suggested reducing Noel's leave from three weeks to three days, questioning what he could possibly do for three weeks in Bali.
Sanz criticized Nick's response, stating: "Not sure what you can do for three weeks in Bali haha," noting that the boss appeared to be treating the situation lightly.
Noel expressed his frustration, stating: "It’s a family trip, we haven’t been together in years and I haven’t had annual leave in 3 years. It’s also no one’s business how I spend my leave."
The final text from Nick, reiterating the cancellation of Noel's leave, was condemned by Sanz as "appalling," prompting Noel to decide he no longer wanted to work for the company.
In a bold move, Noel informed Nick that he would begin his leave "from today" and would reconsider whether the company, which failed to respect his boundaries, was where he wanted to work.

Sanz praised Noel's handling of the situation, emphasizing that workers should not have to justify taking their annual leave.
Following the incident, Noel reached out to Sanz to thank him and his followers for their support, revealing that he went ahead with his Bali trip and returned to find management distant. He subsequently found a new job with better pay.
Bosses... take note!

A boss has ignited fury amongst social media users after messaging an employee who was enjoying their vacation.
Some bosses are great, meanwhile, others could write a book on how to not interact with their employees.
While having a bad boss can cause a great gossip session, they can also really damage morale around the workplace.
And one time you don't want to hear from them is when you're using your paid time off... Yet some overstep the mark.
Like this example.
The controversy began when workplace expert Ben Askins shared an anonymous text exchange between a boss and an employee.
The boss initiated contact by stating: "Hey just a quick one, can you take a look at the presentation I just sent you, they need tidying up before the pitch tomorrow. Slides 73-78 in particular are the priority."
When the employee did not respond promptly, the boss followed up with: "Did you see this message?"
The employee, who was on vacation, responded: "I'm on holiday remember? We've just got off the plane and we're on our way to our Airbnb now."
Despite this, the boss persisted, emphasizing the urgency due to a rescheduled meeting: "I know, but this is important, but the meeting has been brought forward, and we need to sort this out."
The employee explained their inability to assist: "I haven't got my laptop with me, and we have plans this evening."
The boss's response was dismissive: "You don't have your laptop? Why on earth not? Can you find somewhere to jump online? It won't take long."
Maintaining their stance, the employee suggested delegating the task to another team member.
The boss countered: "It would take too long to get someone else up to speed. Please. I really need you to do this. We have to win this one!"
Emphasizing the importance of their pre-planned family time, the employee stated: "I booked this week off months ago and I'm with my family. I can't just abandon our plans to go looking for somewhere to work."
The boss retorted: "Right, good to know where your priorities are."
The employee concluded firmly: "Yes it is with my family."
Ben Askins praised the employee's response, highlighting the boss's behavior as unacceptable.
He remarked: "It is just so obviously incorrect."
Askins further criticized the lack of contingency planning: "If you've not arranged that, then that is your fault."
He emphasized the necessity for employees to disconnect during vacations to recharge effectively.
“As a boss you can’t just keep badgering people. I know it is tempting and easy with WhatsApp, but you’re just going to make people leave,” he explained.
He added that employees need time to disconnect in order to actually do good work.
“Terrible from start to finish,” he said.
And the internet agreed - hard.
One person wrote: "1st rule of vacation or any time off: Don't take your work phone; if work has your personal number block or ignore calls."
A second person said: "If the boss knows which slides needs tidying then he should just tidy them himself."
A third added: "These people are too soft! Not only would I not read the messages until I’m back at work, I would’ve blocked them the day I finished anyway."

A CEO who refused to switch seats with a mother so she could sit next to her children on an airplane has been applauded by social media users.
Last month, Tammy Nelson - the CEO of global jewelry brand CONQUERing - shared a TikTok explaining what happened on a flight from Cincinnati to San Jose, California.
"What would you do," Nelson wrote in the overlay text. "I got on the plane and a woman was sitting in my seat and when I mentioned it to her, she said, 'Oh, you want to sit here? I thought we could switch because these are my kids' (she points to the two seats next to mine)."
In the caption, the CEO added that she did not agree with abandoning her seat because she "only had 90 minutes of sleep" and had to give a presentation in front of "500" people once she got off the flight.
Watch Nelson's TikTok below:She also revealed that she would have been happy to swap places had the woman also had a window seat - meaning she could rest her head on it and sleep - but says the mother pointed to a middle seat she had vacated. This would have meant Nelson would be sat between two other passengers with no comfortable way of having a nap.
The woman's video amassed 4.1 million likes on the social media platform, and the comments section was filled with many users praising her for standing her ground.
"The amount of families who aren’t paying to select their seats together is mind-blowing!", one person wrote, emphasizing: "You were 100% right to not give up your seat."
Another user said: "That was ballsy of the mom to offer a middle seat. Don’t feel guilty!", while a third penned: "I would’ve defended you too! You deserve the seat you paid for and were assigned to."
A fourth added: "I am extremely bothered by the fact that she automatically sat in your seat and was like oh, I thought we’d switch….. what?!"
Nelson spoke with Good Morning America about the incident and shared that she would've happily swapped seats with the woman if she had a window seat, as that is what she had booked on the flight.
"I always pick a window seat because I get motion sickness during takeoff and landing if I can't look out the window," Nelson said. "And then the second reason is, I don't get a lot of sleep, so I usually like to be able to sleep on the plane, and being in the window seat obviously gives you that easiest opportunity to do that."
After she declined to move seats on the plane, the mom-of-two went back to her designated area - which was the row behind Nelson and the two children who were approximately 11 and 15 years old.
"She was not happy. It wasn’t like a fight but she kind of begrudgingly picked her stuff up and huffed and puffed and went back to her seat," the CEO recalled. "Then she continued to complain loudly to the person next to her."
The TikToker revealed that the two children who were seated next to her seemed to be fine throughout the flight and added that she chose to post about her experience on social media because she thought it could be relatable for other viewers. She also said that wanted to give her followers a behind-the-scenes look at her life as a CEO.
As aforementioned, Nelson said that on this particular flight, she was traveling to San Jose for a presentation - for which she felt she needed to prepare.
"I had 90 minutes of sleep the night before I had this big presentation that I needed to give once I arrived at my destination," she said. "I told myself, 'You have to take care of yourself. You need sleep on this flight. You picked the seat in advance. Stick with the seat.'"

One of the hottest topics on social media in recent months has revolved around switching seats on airplanes so couples or families can sit together, especially when there are young children involved.
And a woman has been applauded for refusing to switch her first-class seat on a plane with a child.
Dr. Sabra - who goes by the handle @lifewithdrsabra on TikTok - revealed that she was recently asked to move from her 1A plane seat during a flight to accommodate another passenger's wish.
In the video, she wrote in the overlay text: "POV: Flight agent asks me if I want to give up my 1A seat so a child sits with their family," and from the gleeful expression on Dr. Sabra's face you can immediately tell that she did not agree to the proposal and was extremely happy to have turned down the request.
The doctor also used a popular TikTok audio of a person saying: "Girl, f*** them kids and f*** you too," which is often utilized by creators to accompany clips in which they choose not to make sacrifices for other people’s children.
Watch Sabra's TikTok below:
The 1A seat is the first seat in the first row of a plane and ordinarily resides in the first class section. The seat is thought to be the most popular and sought-after among travelers who fly first class.
The TikToker shared more information about the incident in the caption, explaining that she chose not to give up her position and that the family ended up "finding a solution" to being seated separately.
The doctor cleared up the situation, explaining that the child was in fact a teenager rather than an infant, adding: "That’s a no from me dawg, would you have given up your seat? Also, they ended up finding a solution so no, I am not a terrible human being. Also, the child was like 13."
In the comments section of the clip - which has so far garnered almost 5 million views - many viewers agreed that Dr. Sabra was not in the wrong nor was she unreasonable for keeping her original seat, and pointed out that the situation would not have developed had the parents planned better.
One person said: "Why isn’t their first instinct to just switch the child with one of her parents so they could be with a guardian… lmao."
Someone else shared: "Unless they upgrade me to first class im not moving I paid for that seat you should have planned your trip better."
A third person remarked: "People need to PLAN AHEAD. stop making your lack of planning everyone else’s problem."
A fourth user questioned: "I wonder if some families actually on purpose buy the cheapest tickets, to plan to ask someone for their seat 'I got kids, pls move.'"

Credit: TikTokSabra later revealed that it was not the family’s fault they weren’t sat together, but the airline, stating: "To clarify, the gate agent asked me, I asked to see the seat map, I didn’t like the alternative. They were kind and found a solution right away.
"The family never addressed me. I think it was even the airline’s rule, not them asking to sit together," she added.
Credit: TikTokOften, airlines allow passengers to reserve specific seats on airplanes, however, these seat reservations, even after spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on tickets, will usually cost an additional fee, which can quickly become very costly depending on how many seats are needed and in which area of the plane they are.
This can sometimes be the reason why families do not end up being sat together as they have opted to save money in the belief they will be sat together or at least near each other on their flight.
What do you guys think of her not swapping her first-class seats with the 13-year-old? Share your thoughts.
