A woman has been left red-faced after a picture she shared to social media showing off an outfit gained a lot of attention... for a very NSFW reason.

Taking to social media prior to a Saturday night out with friends to celebrate her birthday, 22-year-old Connie White decided to mark the occasion by sharing a picture of her outfit for the evening.

All dolled up and looking stunning in a red dress, Connie posed in front of the camera, shared the snaps to Instagram, and thought nothing else of it.

That was until a commenter pointed out something a little... x-rated with the picture.

Per news.com.au, somebody spotted an unwanted optical illusion in the post that had been created by Connie's leg reflected in the mirror behind her.

Putting it bluntly, an embarrassed Connie later uploaded the snap to Twitter, along with the caption: "cani believe a posted this on insta & someone commented abt how it looked like a had a d**k inbetween my legs [sic]".

The hilarious post proved very popular on social media, amassing over 1.3K retweets and 25.9K Likes (as of this writing).

Connie later admitted that is was, indeed, just the reflection of her left leg - but that didn't stop people from having a laugh at her misfortune.

One Twitter user replied: "Yes I spotted it now after about a minute looking . Yes their right it looks like a big one alright."

Another joked: "Always good to get a fresh pair of eyes on any work you submit."

A third joked that Connie was "not a patch on Kate", sharing a snap where the Duchess of Cambridge suffered a similar misfortune thanks to the wrinkles in her own red dress:

Connie later returned to Instagram to poke fun at the unfortunate snap, sharing a picture of herself and two friends from that evening.
