In a story that shows the true power of the internet, a writer has seen his book become an overnight best-seller after a video of him sitting alone at his book signing went viral.

Being a writer can often be a lonely affair, especially when it seems that nobody is interested in the work you have produced over a long period of time.

Shawn Warner was spotted by a TikToker sitting alone in a store while he was attempting to promote his book titled Leigh Howard and the Ghosts of Simmons-Pierce Manor.

During the TikTok uploaded by Red, who goes by the handle @internetfamouslol, he stopped and asked Warner about his work, who seemed "defeated" that nobody had shown up to his signing.

At the time of writing, the TikTok video has been viewed over 17 million times and served to also have an amazing impact on the writer and his work.

The murder-mystery story honestly sounds really captivating, as a girl teams up with a ghost who has multiple personalities to get to the bottom of a crime.

Red explained that it wasn't his intention to advertise the book, but he just wanted to show the author some recognition.

Now, the book has skyrocketed to become an overnight success and the number one best seller on Amazon - all thanks to the power of social media!

It's no surprise, as when the initial video went viral, people expressed that they were going to get a copy. One person wrote: "Awe I’m gonna have to get this book. That’s so awesome that you took the time to promote him!"

A second person said: "I met the same gentleman at my thriftbook store a few weeks back. bought one and he signed it for me. super sweet guy, just seemed so sad."

Warner himself started a TikTok account to thank everybody for the "love" that they have shown him since the video went viral and that he is still in shock.

The author is noticeably happier in his video and even suggested that people send in suggestions for possible stores where he can have another book signing.

The success of the book means that Warner and his publisher are now looking at recording an audiobook as well as producing hardback copies.

It goes to show that the internet can be a truly amazing thing when it's utilized properly!
