Authorities have investigated about a dozen alleged sightings of Brian Laundrie in North Carolina, per NBC News.
Laundrie is currently a "person of interest" in the case involving the death of his girlfriend, 22-year-old travel blogger Gabby Petito.
The couple had been traveling across the country together in their converted van over the summer - but Laundrie returned to the Florida home the couple shared with his parents on September 1 without her.
Just days after Petito was reported missing by her family, Laundrie went missing and has yet to be found despite widespread searches for him by authorities. Petito was confirmed dead by the FBI on September 21 after her remains were discovered inside a Wyoming national park.
Laundrie has been missing since September 14.
A spokeswoman with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office said on Tuesday, October 5, that there has been a total of 12 reported sightings of Brian Laundrie, NBC News reports.
Those reports include a 911 call shortly after 2:30 AM on Saturday, October 2, by a man claiming he was "99.99%" positive he spoke to Laundrie.
"He was talking wild. He said that his girlfriend left him and he had to go out to California to see her," the man told the 911 dispatcher, according to audio of the call released Monday, October 4.
"He was acting funny. And I wasn't sure what he looked like. And then … I went and parked and pulled up the photographs of him. And I’m 99.99% sure that was him."

The caller, whose name was not released, also told the dispatcher the man he spoke with was driving a white pickup, which he believed could have been a newer model Ford F-150.
"It wasn’t like an old beater. It was a newer truck," he said, per Independent.
The two crossed paths in a parking lot along a stretch of the Appalachian Trail, after the driver in the truck signaled with his arm that he wanted to speak, the caller said. "I'm telling you - it was him," the caller said.
A statement from the Haywood Sheriff's Office on Monday said investigators have "thoroughly" followed up on every tip, "but all to no avail."
Most recently, the FBI has set up a meeting with a hiker who had alleged he saw a man he believes to be missing 23-year-old Brian Laundrie.
Dennis Davis, an engineer from Florida, last week told New York Post he is sure he spoke with Laundrie on the morning of October 2 on the Appalachian Trail.
Since speaking out about his alleged encounter with a man he claims was Laundrie, Davis has told News Nation Now that he will be now meeting with the FBI, and that "he's positive" the man he spoke with had been Laundrie.
