The FBI has set up a meeting with a hiker who had alleged he saw a man he believes to be missing 23-year-old Brian Laundrie.
Dennis Davis, an engineer from Florida, last week told New York Post he is sure he spoke with Laundrie on the morning of October 2 on the Appalachian Trail.
Laundrie is currently a "person of interest" in the case involving the death of his girlfriend, 22-year-old travel blogger Gabby Petito.
The couple had been traveling across the country together in their converted van over the summer - but Laundrie returned to the Florida home the couple shared with his parents on September 1 without her.
Just days after Petito was reported missing by her family, Laundrie went missing and has yet to be found despite widespread searches for him by authorities. Petito was confirmed dead by the FBI on September 21 after her remains were discovered inside a Wyoming national park.
Since speaking out about his alleged encounter with a man he claims was Laundrie, Davis has told News Nation Now that he will be now meeting with the FBI, and that "he's positive" the man he spoke with had been Laundrie.
News Nation Now's reporter Brian Entin, who spoke with Davis on the phone, said: "He's an engineer, he's still hiking out there, and he says he is so sure.
"He says his job is very detailed oriented he knows exactly what he saw he says he’s positive that it was Brian Laundrie, and he says that he has a meeting tomorrow set up with the FBI."

When asked by Entin how confident he was that he’d conversed with Laundrie that day, Davis explained that he didn’t know what the missing man looked like at first.
After speaking with the man in question, Davis claims he drove 15 minutes down the road as he had been "acting weird", meaning he "didn't want to be in that area any longer".
Davis continued: "When I opened up that picture, and the first picture I saw was a portrait view, and the thing that stood out was that black mustache and beard. Really tight, really thick.
"And when I saw that first portrait view of him, I knew absolutely that it was him."
It was then when Davis called the FBI, telling Entin how he felt when he saw a photograph of missing person Laundrie and the uncanny resemblance between him and the man he spoke to, whom he claims is Laundrie.
Speaking to the New York Post at the weekend, Davis said: "There is no doubt in my mind I spoke to Brian Laundrie — none whatsoever."
The engineer says the man was acting "skittish" and was wearing a black bandana. According to Davis, the man was also driving a pickup truck.
Davis claims that the man asked for directions to California and revealed that he had been in a fight with his girlfriend.
He added: "He said, ‘Man, I’m lost.’ I said, ‘What are you trying to find?’
"And he said, ‘Me and my girlfriend got in a fight but she called me, told me she loves me, and I have to get to California to see her.’
"I said, ‘Well, I-40 is right there and you could take it west to California’ and he said, ‘I’m just going to take this road into California’. He was worried and not making sense."
