The baby son of two Florida deputies who killed themselves within days of each other will be adopted by a close relative.

Clayton Osteen, 24, and Victoria Pacheco, 23, were both deputies in the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. Tragically, they both passed away this week, leaving behind a one-month-old son Jayce.

But there's hope that the little boy's sad start in life won't define his future, as a close relative has stepped forward to adopt him and give him a brighter future.

The news was announced on a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for Jayce by Kelly Ridle, a friend of Osteen.

“The families of Clayton and Victoria are so grateful for all prayers and support received,” Ridle wrote.

"A close family member will be adopting Jayce," she announced, before adding that “all donations will be used for enriching Jayce’s life experiences and securing a brighter future."

At the time of writing, the GoFundMe page has raised over $100,000 for little Jayce.

In the donation description, Ridle describes the heartbreaking circumstances in which he was orphaned.

"Clayton and Victoria were joy-filled, first-time parents excited about their growing family, enamored with their baby Jayce, and so in love with each other," she wrote.

"Tragically, for reasons completely unknown and totally out of character, Clayton took his own life December 31st, 2021. Reeling from the shock of loss, Victoria took her own life two days later."

Osteen served in the St. Lucie County Sherriff's Office, where he was a SWAT team member and Deputy of the Year 2020. Before joining the Sherriff's Office, he also served in the United States Marine Corps.

Meanwhile, his partner Pacheco served alongside him in the Sherriff's Office.

"Jayce’s parents proudly served their country and community," wrote Ridle. "Baby Jayce now needs the support of community and country to help provide for him going forward."

Both Osteen and Pacheco were laid to rest on Saturday. In an update n the GoFundMe page, Ridle posted photos from the service alongside the words:

"Clayton and Victoria were laid to rest side-by-side this afternoon. Tonight we celebrate and share memories. Sunday we rest. Monday begins to the work of making sure this never happens again."
