Anne Hathaway apologizes for 'stuff of nightmares' red carpet moment
Anne Hathaway has issued an apology after a red-carpet mishap that saw her organizing paparazzi at the premiere of her new film.
Hathaway’s fifth and final film of 2026 rounded off an unprecedented year for her professionally, with the actor turning out for the world premiere of Verity, alongside co-stars Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson last week.

Videos and images emerged of Hathaway instructing and positioning the media on a rather busy and disorganized red carpet while posing for pictures.
After the viral moment, Hathaway appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, with Fallon airing the video to both the Serenity star and the studio audience.
“I know exactly what you’re going to show, it can only be one thing. It’s horrifying; it is the stuff of nightmares, Jimmy,” Hathaway said to the host while addressing the moment.
“You kind of went into mom mode,” Fallon quipped.
The actor explains her thinking
The video displays Hathaway hilariously waving her arms around, directing the photographers to get the best angles of her and her co-stars.
“It was like mom mode by way of chorus line,” Hathaway commented.
“I was trying to be helpful,” she added. “There were so many of us and the photographers were getting upset, and the vibe was changing,” admitting that “as soon as [she] was done, my first thought was, ‘Oh, no.’”
“I was doing it because I was trying to get them their picture, but when I was done I was like, ‘but there’s also video!' And I went into a full cringe crouch from inside.
“I apologize, everybody. That girl came out to play last night. Actually, she didn’t come to play. She came for business,” Hathaway added.
In another viral clip of the same moment, Hathaway can be seen reorganizing the photographers, saying: “OK, everybody ready? We are going to start from the left and then we can make our way that way.”
Her co-star, Johnson, can be heard humorously reacting to the incident, threatening: "I'm going to leave!"
Hathaway has enjoyed an incredible run in 2026, boasting three number one films, while also expecting her third child, which is due in the next few months.
