Following the tragic passing of Sophia Hutchins, her cause of death has now been revealed.

Hutchins, 29, was killed in a high-speed ATV crash in Malibu, California, on the morning of Wednesday, July 2.

According to police, Hutchins had been driving a 2013 Polaris all-terrain vehicle at high speed when she collided with a gray 2016 Mazda 6 on Decker Canyon Road, near Jenner’s Malibu home.

The impact sent her vehicle careening off a 350-foot ravine. Officers told the Daily Mail that she was likely attempting to pass the Mazda, which was being driven by a local real estate agent showing homes in the area.

“It looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,” Sergeant Eduardo Saucedo from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

“It doesn’t seem like she was following them. I think she just she came up on them and then hit the car.”

He continued: “So it looked like she tried to manoeuvre to go around it, but she was going too fast and just ended up clipping the rear end of that Mazda, causing her to veer off and go off the cliff there.”

Both women in the Mazda escaped the crash without injury.

Meanwhile, a search and rescue team was deployed to recover Hutchins' body from the bottom of the ravine. Sgt. Saucedo noted that the ATV could not be pulled out because “the tow company didn’t have a line that was long enough to attach it and pull it up.”

Her cause of death has since been confirmed as “multiple blunt force injuries,” with the Los Angeles Medical Examiner ruling it an accident, per the Metro.

Authorities are awaiting toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role. “We won’t know until the coroner’s office completes their report,” Saucedo stated.

Hutchins and Caitlyn Jenner met in 2015, introduced by their hairstylist shortly after Jenner came out as transgender.

At the time, Hutchins was beginning her own transition and found inspiration in Jenner’s journey. Their connection quickly deepened, both personally and professionally.

Hutchins served as Jenner’s business manager and was appointed CEO and director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation.

She also made appearances on Jenner’s E! reality series I Am Cait and became close with the wider Jenner family. Despite frequent speculation about a romantic relationship, both always insisted they were not a couple.

“We have so much in common; we see the world so similarly, and we both are such a good match for each other because we challenge each other,” Hutchins once said of their bond in an interview with The Hidden Truth with Jim Breslo.

“She challenges me in so many ways, has allowed me to grow in so many ways, and I hope I challenge her to grow, and I think because we share so many of the same passions and views, it’s just a great match, a great partnership.”

Originally from Bellevue, Washington, Hutchins graduated from Pepperdine University in 2019 with a degree in economics and finance. She later founded the now-defunct beauty brand LUMASOL, a health-tech startup.
