Perhaps best known by fans for his role as mobster Henry Hill in the 1990 Martin Scorsese movie Goodfellas, Liotta also had many notable big screen roles in films such as Field of Dreams, Hannibal, and John Q.

He also earned an Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Charlie Metcalf in a 2004 episode of ER.

Additionally, his performance in 2015's Texas Rising also earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie.

Video game fans may also recognize Liotta's iconic voice in 2002's critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, in which he played Tommy Vercetti.

Actor Lorraine Bracco, who starred alongside Liotta in Goodfellas, wrote the following on Twitter in response to her co-star's passing:

"I am utterly shattered to hear this terrible news about my Ray.

"I can be anywhere in the world & people will come up & tell me their favorite movie is Goodfellas. Then they always ask what was the best part of making that movie. My response has always been the same... Ray Liotta."

Actor and The Many Saints of Newark (2021) co-star Alessandro Nivola also paid tribute to Liotta, tweeting: "RIP Ray Liotta. I feel so lucky to have squared off against this legend in one of his final roles. The scenes we did together were among the all time highlights of my acting career.

"He was dangerous, unpredictable, hilarious, and generous with his praise for other actors. Too soon."

Liotta leaves behind his fiancée, Jacy Nittolo, and his daughter, Karsen.
