It's fair to say that pranking videos are one of the most popular formats of video on the internet, and it's easy to see why. There's something inherently addictive about them, and I personally can't get enough of watching someone completely losing their mind over a good trick. Okay, so maybe some of them look a little bit staged, and it's hard to separate the good examples from the obviously fake ones. But once you find a video that's completely genuine, it more than makes up for all the naff ones. For instance, this week a video of a family tricking their youngest sibling into thinking he had inexplicably turned invisible has gone viral on social media, and once you give the footage a watch, you'll totally understand why.
It all started when 13-year-old Jocelyn Camacho, who hails from the town of El Centro in California, noticed that there are a lot of "disappearing" videos floating around YouTube, in which people convince others that they can't be seen. Her curiosity piqued, Jocelyn decided to give it a try herself, and thus teamed up 17-year-old sister Julissa and their parents to hatch a devilishly cruel scheme. The poor victim? Their youngest brother, eight-year-old Ezequiel, who suffice to say never saw the prank coming. His reaction says it all.
In the video you can view above, Jocelyn begins the prank by yelling the magic word "abracadabra" - while waving her hands over a blanket covering Ezequiel like some kind of Hogwarts student. Moments later, she whips the blanket off his body. Ezequiel isn't stupid though, and at this part of the prank simply looks bored and unimpressed. Meanwhile, Jocelyn and Julissa reacted in mock-astonishment, shouting "no way, he is not here, he is not here!" I have to admire their acting chops here because their plan clearly worked. Ezequiel can be seen to start looking quite intrigued.
Julissa then tells Jocelyn to sit down so they can take a picture to prove to Ezequiel that he's vanished. By now, Ezequiel is fully convinced that he's invisible, and starts acting out by giving flipping off his sister as she took a picture standing next to him. But then his attitude dramatically changes when they show him the photo (which they obviously staged in advance beforehand) which ‘proves’ he is actually invisible. Ezequiel suddenly starts screaming before breaking down into tears.
Aww, poor little guy. Luckily, his sisters were on hand to tell him that it was all a big joke, and the kid seems to have taken the laugh at his expense pretty well, all things considered. Personally, I think I would be a lot more pissed off. This is a good example of how to do a prank video well. But they don't always go as smoothly as this.
