James Morrison's wife Gill Catchpole's cause of death has been confirmed after she sadly died last week.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the 'Broken Strings' singer's 45-year-old wife was found unresponsive in her family home in Whitminster, Gloucestershire, on Friday (January 5).

A spokesperson for the police told The Mirror that they were called to the house following concerns for the welfare of a resident. When they arrived, they found "the body of a woman in her 40s".

Following the heartbreaking death, a source close to the situation said the 39-year-old musician is "holding it together" for the sake of the couple's children, Elsie, 15, and Ada, five, who are also being comforted by family.

Per The Independent, pathologist Dr. Terry Jones gave the provisional cause of Catchpole’s death as hanging, after carrying out the post-mortem examination.

The inquest into Catchpole's death also disclosed that the mom-of-two was found by Morrison, who was contacted by a concerned friend who struggled to gain access inside the property. Emergency services were then alerted, with paramedics and police arriving at the property, announcing the death of Catchpole at 9.37AM.

The inquest has now been adjourned to a later date. Samples were taken from Catchpole's body for toxicological analysis, per Daily Mail.

The coroner was informed that police officers were satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances involved.

Catchpole ran a sandwich shop called the Cotswold Sandwich Box in the village of Whitminster where she lived with her husband and their two children. The family is well known in the local community, with many residents describing her as a "leading and popular figure".

One woman who previously worked with her told the Daily Mail: "I saw Gill very regularly, right up until her death, which has affected us all because we're like one big family around here.

"She was always waving, saying hello, and stopping to chat. She told me just a few days ago that she was looking forward to the future and making big changes in 2024. I never sensed anything was wrong because that was Gill. She was a very positive and determined person who had gone through a lot recently," they added.

The 'You Give Me Something' musician married his long-term spouse in 2006 after meeting two decades ago when she moved into his mother's home as a lodger.

Morrison has suffered immense heartbreak over the years, including the deaths of his father Paul, brother Alexis, and nephew Callum, within the space of three years.

It has been reported that the artist has now shelved all work commitments and is focused on caring for his two daughters.
