Joe Biden was caught off-guard after his aide let him know that there was something on his chin.
The US president, who was in a meeting with governors and officials, received a handwritten note and picked it back up to read the notes back, displaying the aide's message to photographers.
"Sir, there is something on your chin," the note read, per New York Post.
The photos were taken while the president met with governors in the Eisenhower Building to discuss ongoing efforts to strengthen wildfire prevention and hear firsthand about the ongoing impacts of the 2021 wildfire season.
The gaffe - which happened as his vice president Kamala Harris was addressing officials - was hilariously caught on camera, and needless to say, instantly went viral on social media.
The ordeal saw the POTUS immediately remove whatever was on his chin, which eagle-eyed social media users speculated was either a piece of chip or a bit of mustard.
It wasn't long before people rushed to Twitter to point out the hilarious blunder, as many laughed along with the president, while others took more of a critiquing stance.
Some critics referred to Biden's old age - a frequent taunt of his predecessor, Donald Trump, who often made gaffes of his own while in office.
A clip of the moment also found its way onto the Republican National Committee’s data team Twitter account, RNC Research, where it was mocked.
"After a staffer gives Joe Biden a note saying, 'there’s something on your chin,' Biden wipes his chin," tweeted the account.
"[He] Then appears to put whatever was on his chin in his mouth?"
Others were more sympathetic, as one wrote: "Wish all people would be this kind."
"I need an aide like that," another added.
Biden's mishap comes not long after he accidentally confused former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, per The Sun.
Biden said: "Back in 2009, during the so-called Great Recession, the President asked me to be in charge of managing that piece.
"Then President Trump - excuse me, Freudian slip, that was the last president. He caused it - anyway," he said, catching his mistake.
"President Obama, I was vice president. The American auto industry, you remember, was on the rise."
