A video has gone viral on social media this week showing former Vice President Mike Pence and his family fleeing protesters during the Capitol riots.

According to The Independent, the (until now) never-before-seen video in question was made public by impeachment managers prosecuting former president Donald Trump in his Senate trial.

Take a look at the disturbing footage of Pence’s retreat in the video below:

The impeachment managers had compiled a video timeline using CCTV footage taken from inside the Capitol building to recreate the incident.

As you can see in the video above, the Pence family descend the stairs below the Senate chambers, as the mob demand to know the former his whereabouts after he refused to overturn the election results.

The Pences can then be seen evacuating the US Senate chamber from an adjoining office, while heroic police officer Eugene Goodman held the rioters at bay.

Per The Independent, some members of the angry mob can be heard chanting “hang Mike Pence” and "bring out Pence".

Other footage includes an audio file of a police officer shouting: “We need some reinforcements up here now. They’re starting to pull the gates down. They’re throwing metal poles at us."

Per The Independent, in a break in the trial on Wednesday, February 10, Senator Mitt Romney told reporters that he was not aware that Officer Goodman was the officer who directed him to safety or how close he was to the rioters.

Commenting on the footage, Romney stated: "It tears at your heart and brings tears to your eyes. That was overwhelmingly distressing.”

On Wednesday, January 6, a mob of supporters of former POTUS Donald Trump breached the Capitol building in Washington D.C. and interrupted the Congressional affirmation of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 US presidential elections.

Once inside, the mob clashed with riot police, forcing Pence, a number of other politicians, and a number of journalists to flee the scene. Five people, including a police officer, died as a direct result of the civil disorder.

Trump stands accused of inciting the violence, after making an incendiary speech made to a larger gathering of his supporters prior to the riots.

In his speech., Trump repeatedly insisted without evidence that the Democrat party was guilty of voter fraud, and that Joe Biden had stolen the election.
