When you check the weather app on your phone, seeing 30% rain means that there's a 30% chance of it, right? Well... not exactly!
We've all fallen victim to seeing a low percentage of rain, dressing for dry weather, and then finding ourselves battling the elements later on.
However, the real meaning behind the percentages may change how you approach your outfits for the day, or whether you go for that outdoor picnic.
The percentage doesn't mean a chance of rain but instead means the percentage of your area that'll be covered by it.
Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt, 32, has taken to TikTok to show her surprise at finding out this information, and it turns out she isn't alone!
The caption reads: "They should teach you how to read weather apps in school and that 🤣 🌧."
During the video, she reveals her shock at this life-changing information. "All this time I've been caught in the rain and people are like, 'Why haven't you brought a jacket?' and stuff like that," she says.
"It's because I've just found out that on the weather app when it says '30 percent rain', I thought it meant 30 percent chance of rain.
"It doesn't mean that. It means that 30 percent of your area will be covered in rain," she explains as she gestures that her mind has been blown.
Users in the comments were also shocked, with one saying: "You’re joking!!! ? ? ? I’m today’s age to know this now! 🤯😂😂😂."
Another user said: "No way???? Is this actually true??? I swear I also thought it was 30% chance 😂😂," and a third added: "Oh my god my whole life has been a lie."
A fourth person thought it meant something else entirely: "So is it really just me that thought it was the power of rain from drizzle to hail 😂😂"
Doubts have been cast on these revelations, with Taste Of Home going into a bit more depth: "Meteorologists aren’t in agreement on how to measure the Probability of Precipitation, aka that little percentage of rain on your weather app.
"Some use a formula for it — PoP = C x A, where C stands for confidence and A stands for area. So if there’s a 50% chance of rain in 80% of a given area, your probability of rain becomes 40%."
Whatever the percentage actually means - let's just all agree to wear a coat in the future!

A woman was left red-faced after learning that people were staring at her because of a rather embarrassing detail on her activewear.
Jessie from Sydney, Australia - who goes by then handle @funtimejess - noticed people gawking at her when she was out on her "hot girl walk" wearing a white shirt over her black sports bra.
The TikToker went on to say that she thought in her "delulu [delusional] mind" everyone was looking at her because she looked "really good".
However, Jessie realized that was not exactly the case as she put on the white tee she was originally wearing over her black sports bra, which had the word 'Peloton' written across the front with each letter shaded with a different color.
And while it looked cute at first, with the white top over it, the letters E, L, T, and N were all concealed but the remaining letters, in a lighter color, could be seen clearly across the young woman's chest.
Unfortunately for the mortified TikToker, the remaining letters spelled out "P-O-O" but luckily, she saw the funny side to it as she laughed at the end of the video.
As of the time of writing, the video - which amassed 1.3 million views and 209K likes - left Jessie, along with thousands of viewers in stitches over the fashion failure.
One user said: "I’m CACKLING. This is something that would happen to me," another remarked: "The way it's spaced almost perfectly too."
A third chimed in: "Now THAT'S fashion," while a fourth simply commented: "I'll tell you what... this is the science we needed!! It proves a white bra under a white top is not the way to go. thank you for your service."
Meanwhile, other people used the hilarious TikTok as an opportunity to share their own embarrassing stories, as one person revealed: "I have a shirt that says GRASS FED (it's from a dog food company), and my messenger bag strap often covers the G & R..."
A second user interjected: "One day I was wearing my Janus Films shirt under a cardigan. Guess the only letter the cardigan covered. It took 5 hours until someone told me."
A third embarrassingly said: "I bought a stitch sweater from Primark (As In Lilo and Stitch) but when I wore it with a jacket, it said T** in big capital letters across my chest."
Peloton - the exercise bike brand she had been repping on her top - saw Jessie's viral clip and commented that they will compensate for her awkward predicament by giving her "a better half zip" top for her next hot girl walk.

A woman has been told by fellow social media users to seek help after sharing a concerning video online of a bizarre symbol she found outside her home.
Taking to TikTok to share the clip, user '@bby.jade__' captioned her post "What does this mean?"
In the video, the woman can be seen walking outside of her home, explaining that she had previously gone to throw out her garbage earlier that morning. However, when she reached her garbage container, she found that somebody had scrawled "1F" on top of it in the snow.
Concerned, she went to social media for answers, but many TikTok users were quick to inform her that she needed to contact the police and seek help after revealing the alleged meaning behind the symbol.
After raking up over 6.6 million views, people were quick to leave the woman advice in the comments section.
"It means: 1 female," one person wrote. "They are telling the people who are supposed to rob you or whatever, that you live alone."
Another user wrote: "stay safe contact the police it means 1 female to [people] who are planning to rob you [sic]".
This advice was echoed by another social media user, who wrote: "1F means one female, ur being targeted, so what u need to do is put fresh snow on the lid and write '3M' on it which means 3 males so its less likely [sic".
In response to her video going viral and the comments it received, the woman later posted an update in the comments section, writing: "IM SAFE! I stayed at a hotel it's now 1am I'll update when I wake up. My dad will be coming to town and staying with me for a few days!"
She later wrote: "I called the cops. I left with my mom. I whipped it off. I'm getting cameras! I'm doing everything I can!"
In a series of follow-up videos, the woman says that she had officers come round to her property, but there was little they could do. She is now staying with her mom for a few days.
She reassured those following her story that she is doing "fine", and when she returns home, she won't be going alone.

It’s an unwritten rule of broadcasting that if you want people to take something seriously, make sure that it isn’t shaped like a penis. Unfortunately for some struggling British meteorologists, this rule was broken this week by an unfortunately shaped cloud languishing over southern England.
The heavy rainclouds, which were reported by BBC Essex, made their way into a now-viral tweet. Although the original photo was undoubtedly intended to make viewers sit up and take notice - warning viewers of “More heavy showers across Essex overnight” - it didn’t take long for the internet to spot an opportunity for mischief. In a matter of minutes, Twitter was awash with willy jokes. For shame.

Predictably, almost all of the 35,000 or so retweets and comments centered around the unfortunate appearance of the ominous clouds. As one traumatized Essex local put it, “As a resident of Southend on sea I think I’m somewhere between the shaft & the ballsack”. Many more simply shared shocked memes, or helpfully filled in the rest of the weather map with a few graphic illustrations.
Check out the Storm Dennis Weather Map on TV:

Anyone who enjoys a local news gaffe will be well aware that this isn’t the first time that penises have got in the way of some serious weather reporting. Earlier this year, in fact, another BBC report on Storm Dennis was interrupted by what looked like a huge orange cock hovering over Wales, understandably driving viewers to distraction.

In fact, whatever field you’re working in, if you want to create something that’s going to simultaneously achieve viral fame whilst also being instantly forgettable apart from one key detail, making it look like a penis is definitely a good way to go. Obviously, the weather can’t help that we all have the mind of a 10-year-old. But it’s definitely a good way to slip under the radar if you want the main message to go undetected.

A TikTok user has gone viral for sharing a tip which has brought her success at every job interview she's used it in.
Job interviews are one of the most nerve-wracking, anxiety inducing experiences a person can endure, so to have a solid gold tip like this is something jobseekers are not taking lightly, watching the video in their millions.
TikTok user Jennifer Reardon - who goes by @notjenneeree on the social media platform, has shared the one question she has used at previous job interviews, with a 100 percent success rate.
And if it worked this well for her, there's no harm in trying it out in your next interview, too.
The question relates to dispelling any fears or concerns interviewers may have about you after going through the interview process. This is done when you are asked at the end of the interview if you have any questions for your potential new employers.
Urging interviewees to "do your interview, be normal" and not change anything about their usual approach to the process, Jennifer then reveals the question you need to be asking.
"Before you're done, the last question you're going to ask them is something along the lines of, 'Are there any concerns that you have about me that we can address before we end?'
"You guys, they will have concerns, and then that's your time to address them and then once you're done addressing them they'll have no concerns."
The influencer has amassed over 1.6 million followers on her main TikTok account as well as 32.4 million likes (the video in question appears to come from her private account) and calls this tip her "secret trick", adding: "It works. Try it immediately".
However, not everyone has been convinced by Jenna's confident approach to her "secret trick".
One user replied, "I've tried this, I just get weird looks, after followed by them saying something like, 'No we already asked you everything' in a sarcastic tone." Oh well. Can't win them all.
Another user was more positive, though, commenting: "I say: what reservations do you have about my abilities to perform this role? HIRED!!"
Now, call us old fashioned, but we believe the best interview technique is to interview in pairs, dressed in tuxedos, just like Brennan Huff and Dale Doback in Stepbrothers.
Now, while you could very well argue that Dale and Brennan did not, in fact, successfully land any of the jobs they interviewed for, their failure during this series of interviews led to them forming Prestige Worldwide and releasing Boats and Hoes which, let's face it, is better than landing any real job any day of the week.
Maybe just ignore the fact that they crashed Dale's dad's boat at the end of the video for that song, though. And even then, everything worked out in the end and they both got Chewbacca masks.
A woman has sparked a debate on social media with her "inappropriate" choice of swimwear.
While many defended her swimsuit, others - particularly angry parents - slammed it for being an overly risqué piece to wear to a waterpark.
TikTok user Kim Stram (@kstram83) started the debate by posting a clip of the woman on her TikTok. In the clip, kids and families can be seen enjoying a busy waterpark swimming pool.
It's not known if Kim recorded the video or where it was captured, but the footage focuses on one swimmer in particular: a woman wearing a flesh-colored, G-string swimsuit. In overlay text, Kim questions the skimpy swimwear choice, asking her followers: "Is this appropriate for a family water park or not?"
Take a look and decide for yourself:She captioned the video: "Thoughts!! I don’t think its appropriate there’s kids all around her, but she looks great!"
Since being posted last week, the clip has racked up over 4 million views and thousands of comments from people weighing in on the debate.
Many leaped to the woman's defense, saying that children wouldn't notice or care what the woman was wearing - and that the only reason adults might is out of jealousy.
"Kids ain’t worried about that. They just having fun in the water," one wrote, while another agreed: "Children don't care or sexualize."
A third chimed in: "The kids don't care, the women are just concerned their husbands are looking," and a fourth questioned: "Is it appropriate to record someone in a bathing suit without them noticing?"
However, others argued that while the swimsuit looked great, it should have been reserved for a different occasion.
"That’s too much. Time and place. I wear stuff like that but I wouldn’t wear it there out of respect for others," one person commented. Another agreed: "This is something I would wear to work lol ( the club) and no I wouldn’t wear it to a family water park."
A third pointed out that if it had been a man wearing a revealing swimsuit, people wouldn't have been so accepting. "Everyone supportive yet if a man wore a skin-tight speedo with kids eye level to it they would be mad as hell," they wrote.
What do you think of the woman's choice of swimwear? Let us know in the comments.
