People have been left shocked after hearing that a passenger refused to offer a pregnant woman her seat on a bus because she was "tired."

Now, we can all agree that it's common decency that if you're sitting on a seat, especially on public transport, and someone -  whether it be an elderly person or a pregnant woman - is standing up, you offer them your seat, right?

Well, it seems as though this isn't a universal mannerism for some people as one person took to Reddit's notorious 'Am I The Ass****' thread to admit that they felt bad after refusing to give their seat to a heavily pregnant person.

"I (F) was coming back home from college using the public [sic] transportation as I often do (I live in Argentina). In my stop [sic] there were plenty of seats available, [and] I [picked] one in the back of the bus near the door," wrote the anonymous user.

She continued: "A few stops after a pregnant woman got in, she ignored the first seats (which are the priority seats) and came up to me and asked if I could give her the seat."

However, rather than getting up and giving her the seat, she instead refused because she was "tired" and told the woman to go and pick one of the empty ones near the front of the bus.

"She mumbled that I was a jerk and said she's 8 months pregnant," she wrote. "I told her I don't care for that and that the priority seats are in the front of the bus."

The user then concluded that she was actually "entitled" to the seat because she had got there first.

"Somebody else gave her a seat in the background but still made me feel kinda like an a**hole," she stated. "I think I'm entitled to the seat if I got in before. But I also don't know if the people in the priority seats were people who really needed it so that woman couldn't have asked them to give it to her."

Of course, social media users were not impressed by this person's lack of consideration.

"It is disappointing what the world is coming to," wrote one user. "Pregnant women act 'entitled' now because of their 'choice.' That’s where we are? What has happened to common courtesy and decency? For the men throwing shade at the pregnant lady, may this never happen to your wife. To the women, may this never happen to you."

Another also agreed, writing: "So here’s the thing, you don’t have to give up a seat for a heavily pregnant person. It’s the kind, considerate, understanding and sympathetic thing to do and if you don’t don’t do it, then you are exactly what you think you are. I think YTA, but then again I give pregnant people a seat."

A third stated that they were "disappointed" at the fact that the woman even had to ask for a seat in the first place with no one willingly offering one to her.

And this user also added their opinion to the mix, writing: "YTA. You're young, you're healthy, you're not 8 months pregnant. While there's no legal obligation for you to give up the seat, you give up the seat. Jesus, you don't need a law or a written contract to do a solid for someone having a worse day than you."

However, not everyone was criticizing the college student, with one person commenting: "NTA. She should have taken the priority seats or any other free seat. You don’t need to give up your seat in this situation."

Insanely, another also agreed that this user was NTA because the world shouldn't have to "cater" towards pregnant people.

"Going to be an unpopular opinion but, NTA," they wrote in their lengthy response. "The world shouldn’t have to cater to someone who is pregnant because she thinks everyone owes her courtesy for her decision to have a child. Why should OP have to give up their seat when there is a bus full of people who are all tired and want to sit."

"I have a physical disability and I never inconvenience anyone because they have just as much of a right to a comfortable ride that I want," they added.

But I think what they're missing is that it's very dangerous for a pregnant woman, especially one that is eight months along, to be standing on a moving vehicle. Not only that, if you think you're tired, imagine having to carry another being around all day while also doing what you need to do. Tired is an understatement for pregnant women.

The lack of empathy from some people under the post is unreal, but hey, what else can you expect from people?
