The devastating attack spanned approximately 22 minutes before law enforcement arrived on the scene, putting an end to the rampage.

Among the casualties was 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, who was on his way to school when the attack unfolded.

Daniel's devastated family spoke to Sky News, describing him as "a wonderful child" who was "well loved" and "hard-working".

They added that his death "leaves a gaping wound in the family".

"No family should have to go through what we are experiencing today," they said. "Any family will understand it's an absolute tragedy."

In a statement, the school paid tribute to Daniel, saying: "He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits. His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us."

The Metropolitan Police have identified the suspect as 36-year-old Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national, who now faces charges including murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith conveyed, per the Independent: "This is an incredibly tragic incident that has resulted in a young boy losing his life and his family devastated."

London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed his condolences, stating: "I'm sure I speak for the entire city when I say our thoughts are with this young child and his family.

"It breaks my heart not only that this child has lost his life, but two members of our emergency services have risked their own safety to make sure others weren't injured.

"It shows the danger our police officers face every day and I thank them for their bravery."

As reported by BBC News, Monzo is currently at Westminster Magistrates' Court at the time of writing (May 2) as the legal proceedings get underway.

He will appear at the Old Bailey on May 7.
