UK Wildlife Park reveals what will happen to tiger after man died following attack in enclosure
The UK wildlife park where a man was mauled to death after entering a tiger enclosure has revealed what will happen to the tiger involved.
As previously reported, on Saturday afternoon (October 10), a man died after he breached the enclosure of a Siberian tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, UK.
The incident occurred at 13.35PM, after the unidentified victim managed to enter the enclosure before he was mauled by the tiger. Warning shots rang out as park attendants tried to distract the tiger, which returned and was secured in its enclosure while emergency services attended to the man.
South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: "The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury.
"Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene."
Police noted that there is not threat to the public from the tiger, who is "uninjured and remained in the enclosure following the incident."
Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed that it was remaining closed for the weekend after the deadly incident, and have now released further information about what will happen to Altai, the tiger involved.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park said in a statement shared with LadBible: "We would like to thank everyone who has expressed their concern following yesterday's tragic incident.
"Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies remain with the family and loved ones of the man who tragically lost his life.
"The park will be closed today and the staff team who were deeply affected by events will receive specialist support.
"Many, many people have contacted us about Altai, the tiger. We can reassure everyone that he is safe and well and will not be euthanized as a result of this incident."
It comes after Tiger King star Carole Baskin, who is CEO of the non-profit organization Big Cat Rescue, based in Tampa, Florida, which works to end the exploitation of big cats in captivity, spoke out about the incident.
She told the New York Post: "The tiger was not doing anything wrong by being a tiger. I am relieved to hear that the animal was not harmed.
"We don’t yet know all the circumstances that led to this man’s death, and it would be wrong to speculate.
"What we do know is that a tiger is a powerful wild predator, and no amount of captivity, training, or familiarity can change that."
She added: "My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life today at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
"No family should have to endure such a devastating loss, and my thoughts are also with those who witnessed this tragedy."
She reiterated: "Tragedies like this remind us why [the work that Big Cat Rescue does] matters.
"My hope is that this terrible loss will lead to meaningful reflection about our relationship with wild animals, and a future where both people and tigers are safer because we have chosen to protect wild cats where they belong: in the wild."
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police added in a statement: "At 1.35PM today (Saturday October 10) we received reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
"The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury. Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The man’s family is aware and is being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this distressing time.
"Regarding rumors surrounding the condition of the tiger, the animal was uninjured and remained in the enclosure following the incident and there is no wider risk to the public."
