BDSM cruise organizer reveals what happens when passengers break consent rules at sex and dungeon parties
A nude cruise organizer for one of the largest adult-only cruise companies has revealed what the protocol is when a passenger breaks consent rules at sex and dungeon parties.
Lee, who is the operational head at Kinky Cruise, spoke exclusively to VT about his experiences on board one of the raunchiest cruise liners currently in operation.
With the ships setting sail around the Caribbean twice yearly, Kinky Cruise boasts everything from BDSM playrooms to sex dungeons, with sex and body-positivity at its very heart.
BDSM cruise organizer reveals consent protocol
Despite the sexually charged preferences of many of its shipmates, Lee has discussed openly the meaning of consent and the priority it takes while on board the company’s nude cruises.
“One thing we work very hard to teach is that nudity is not consent, flirtation is not consent, being in a playroom is not consent, and being on an adult lifestyle cruise certainly isn't consent,” Lee warned.
“Sometimes someone thinks, ‘Well, we're all here for the same reason,’ and that is exactly the wrong assumption. We're not. People have different relationships, boundaries, interests and comfort levels.
“When there is a misunderstanding, the goal is to address it quickly, respectfully and directly. But consent isn't negotiable. Our rules are very clear: No means no. Concations also has a formal incident-reporting process covering consent violations, harassment, boundary crossing and similar conduct.”
Organizer discusses the punishment for breaking consent rules
However, despite the company’s uncompromising stance on consent, in the event that a passenger were to flout those regulations, Lee revealed how they would handle such a situation, as well as what the potential punishments could be.
“A guest can potentially be put off the ship at the next port for serious conduct violations, including unwanted advances, prohibited sexual conduct, illegal drugs, refusing security instructions, or conduct that threatens the safety or enjoyment of other passengers,” Lee claimed.
“Basically, serious violations of ship rules, applicable law or the event code of conduct. It's an adults-only environment, but 'adult' doesn't mean 'anything goes.' In some ways, the boundaries have to be clearer precisely because the environment is so sexually open.”
While Kinky Cruise ensures a stringent code of ethics in an environment that can leave people vulnerable, Lee insists that in all his time operating the cruises, he’s never had to remove anyone.
“I have never had to remove anyone. It is rare for event staff or security to have to intervene in any kind of a negative situation,” Lee revealed. “Our events draw a pretty self-selecting group of people who want to be there and understand the community, and the rules are typically followed.”
