A body language expert has made a haunting observation about the backpack of the masked person seen at Nancy Guthrie's home.
Nancy, an 84-year-old woman from Tucson, Arizona, was last seen at her daughter's home on the evening of January 31.
She was reported missing the following morning after failing to show up for a scheduled church service.
Authorities quickly suspected foul play when blood belonging to the 84-year-old was found near her house. A ransom note demanding $6 million in bitcoin was sent shortly after, although no further communication has been made since the payment deadline passed on February 9.
The case took a dramatic twist on February 10, when the FBI released images and video footage of a masked individual tampering with the doorbell camera outside Nancy's home.
This footage has already led to key insights, including an expert analysis by body language expert Susan Constantine.
Constantine closely reviewed the video and noted that the suspect’s backpack was "already full," which is a red flag.
“Because the person would have come in with less stuff in the backpack, and they generally come in with two or three people because they have tasks that they have to do. One's a lookout. One is coming to the front…might be breaking the window? Another one is the one who enters," she explained.
“So there's they have they have their roles. That's what I'm trying to say. It's unusual to see a burglar coming in with a full backpack through the main front door by themselves. So I don't think that this was a burglary,” she added.
Her analysis aligned with other expert opinions, including those of former CIA officer and FBI special agent Tracy Walder, who also examined the footage.
Walder highlighted the suspect’s gait and lack of night vision glasses as important details.
“While the walk is not overly distinctive, it’s something the FBI could definitely look at,” she said, per Page Six. “I’m shocked [they] didn’t have some kind of night vision glasses to deter [their] eyes."
The Kidnapping Appears to Be Targeted
The body language analysis, coupled with Walder's insights, further suggests that Nancy was the intended target, and the kidnapping was planned rather than a random act.
“This is a person who came with a backpack, came with a weapon. They aren’t there to steal anything,” Walder said.
The investigation into the 84-year-old's disappearance remains ongoing.
Police have been looking into different leads, such as interviewing workers who were recently hired at the Guthrie family’s home.
Despite the lack of communication from the kidnappers, the FBI continues to work around the clock and has deployed agents from across the country to Tucson to assist in the search.
Nancy's distraught family has continued to share their public pleas for her safe return.
"We are at an hour of desperation," her daughter, Savannah, said in a public plea earlier this week. "We need your help."
