Following the discovery of Brian Laundrie's remains, his family's attorney has declared that "today is not the day to discuss the Gabby Petito case".
Steven Bertolino, the lawyer of Chris and Roberta Laundrie, made the remarks in his first interview since the 23-year-old fugitive's remains were formally identified on Thursday, October 21.
Bertolino told NBC News: "I understand that this is the impetus - that this is the reason - why all this is happening.
"At some point in the future, there may be conversations to be had. There may be information to be discussed. Tonight is not that time."
Bertolino went on to say that the whole ordeal has been tragic for both the Laundries and the family of Gabby Petito, who was stranged to death and left in the wilderness in Wyoming for weeks before her body was found on September 19.
"There are two families that have suffered a great tragedy. There are two young people that have now lost their lives," he added.
According to the attorney, police arrived at the Laundrie residence yesterday evening to inform the parents that the remains they had discovered the day before belonged to their son.
Bertolino said in a statement, per CNN: "Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian's. We have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundrie's privacy at this time."

Laundrie's remains were discovered on Wednesday, October 20, in the Carlton Reserve, which is where Laundrie's parents told police their son had gone for a hike on September 14.
The FBI said in a statement regarding the discovery: "On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T Mabry Carlton Jr Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creed Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie."
According to BBC News, investigators said the remains were discovered in a section of the reserve that had until recently been underwater. As reported by NBC News New York, the remains found that day were skeletal and included a skull.
Laundrie was the only person of interest in the homicide of Petito, who was his fiancée.
