Brian Laundrie's sister and her family have reportedly received a number of death threats since the Gabby Petito case began making international headlines.
According to WFLA-TV, which cited records obtained by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office in Florida, Cassie Laundrie and her husband, James Luycx, have received threats about "killing [their] family and kidnapping [their] kids" and other "messages from random people."
The outlet also reported that deputies had arrived at Cassie's home multiple times in a period of about two weeks. The first was on September 19, which was two days after her parents told investigators that they had not seen her brother since September 14.
On October 1, the family told police that "suspicious circumstances" had arisen at their home, which is about 40 miles from where her brother Brian lived with both his parents and Gabby in North Port.
After the threats on their lives, deputies would regularly check in on the family, the outlet reported.
Brian, 23, is the only person of interest in the disappearance and homicide of travel blogger Gabby, who was his fiancée.
Over the summer, the engaged couple embarked on a cross-country road trip together, which at one point saw them get into a physical altercation. When a concerned witness alerted police to the incident, officers told the pair to separate for the night.
Just over a month later, Gabby was found dead in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.
On Tuesday, October 12, it was revealed by Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue at a press conference that Gabby had been strangled to death and left in the wilderness for up to four weeks.
"We hereby find the cause and manner of death to be, the cause, death by strangulation, and manner is homicide," Dr. Blue stated, per The New York Times. "By Wyoming state statute, no other information will be released about the autopsy."
A body matching the description of Gabby was found on September 19, with the FBI confirming two days later that the remains indeed belonged to the 22-year-old travel blogger.
Brian has now been missing for a month, with his parents having originally informed police that their son told them he was going for a hike in the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve near Venice.
