Marjorie Taylor Greene was hit with a 12-hour suspension from Twitter after spreading misinformation surrounding the ongoing pandemic.

According to CBS, the controversial Georgia representative was suspended from the social media platform on Monday, July 19, after sharing a series of posts on Sunday regarding vaccines and Covid-19 that Twitter deemed to be misleading.

A spokesperson for Twitter told CBS that Greene's posts had suggested that Covid-19 is not dangerous for people who are not obese or over the age of 65.

She also added that it was not vital that people who did not fall into those categories to get vaccinated.

Because of this, the Twitter spokesperson added that her account has been rendered accessible only in "read-only" mode for 12 hours and that she could be permanently suspended if she continues to flout the rules.

Twitter's Covid-19 misleading information policy states that the company will punish users who intentionally spread "false or misleading information about the prevalence of the virus or risk of infection or death."

After her 12-hour suspension had been lifted, Greene once again took to Twitter to criticize the decision, saying:

"American social media company Twitter banned me for 12 hrs, censoring me, & violating my freedom of speech.

"You know who else silences, censors, and bans people they don’t like and want heard.

"Communist China

"Communism is not good @Twitter

"Save America Stop Communism!"

Greene previously provoked controversy after comparing the wearing of face masks to the Holocaust, stating per NBC News:

"We can look back in a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens - so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany."

She later apologized for her comments after fellow representative Brad Schneider announced that he and other lawmakers were planning to introduce a resolution to censor Greene over her perceived anti-semitic comments.

Additionally, Greene claimed that she had recently visited the Holocaust Museum, adding: "I know that words that I have stated were hurtful, and for that, I'm very sorry.

"It happened, and, you know, over 6 million Jewish people were murdered."

Earlier this month, Greene also caused outrage on the social media platform after calling former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner, who is currently running for governor of California in the 2021 gubernatorial recall election in the state, a "man in a dress".

Greene stated: "GOP support & consultants working to elect Jenner for Governor in CA are playing the left's stupid identity politics game. A game that sells out our faith, family, and freedoms.

"Stop promoting this man in a dress & NEVER-Trumper. CA Patriots worked too hard & deserve better. [sic]"

In response, Jenner replied on Twitter saying: "Tough talk coming from someone who backed down to the woke mob and settled out of court with a Twitter troll. Now your money is being used to take guns away from law-abiding Americans."
