President Donald Trump has deleted an image depicting himself as a Jesus-like character after supporters called him an Antichrist and declared they regretted voting for him.
Just a day before the US blockade of Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz was implemented, Trump posted an AI-generated image of himself in biblical-looking robes healing a sick man.
However, it was something in the background that drew people's attention.
First shared in February by MAGA influencer Nick Adams, the image aimed to depict Trump as healing a “sick” America, by resting his palm on the forehead of a sick man in a hospital bed and making him glow.
The image Trump posted on Sunday was almost an exact replica of the original, but included a not-so-subtle change that riled up even the loyal MAGA supporters.
The American soldiers that had previously floated above the president’s left shoulder were morphed into horned demon-like creatures in the latest iteration of the image.
Even without the satanic imagery it angered the most die-hard Trump supporters, many of which accused him of “blasphemy” and urged him to remove it.
“You are mocking Jesus” one X user said.
While another added “You are sick. I have never regretted a vote more”.
The Bulwark’s culture editor Sonny Bunch dubbed the freshly added figures as “demons”.
He said in a statement on X: “The thing about Donald Trump is that he’s a completely irreligious person and, as a result, doesn’t actually care about the image of himself as Jesus with demons over his shoulder.”
Trump shared the image in the midst of an ongoing spat with Pope Leo XIV after he hit back following the president’s savage social media tirade, in which he branded the American pontiff “weak” and “terrible”.
Trump blasted Leo for being “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy” on Truth Social before he shared the bizarre AI image depicting himself as Jesus.
The president had been infuriated by the American pontiff‘s condemnation of the Iran war after crunch peace talks in Pakistan fell flat.
In his evening prayers at Saint Peter’s Basilica this weekend, Leo criticised the “idolatry of self” and “delusion of omnipotence” in the conflict.
While he did not mention Trump by name, it has been viewed as a veiled attack on the White House.
In a furious reaction on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon.
“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a Country that was sending massive amounts of Drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country."
