Donald Trump says the prospect of running for House Speaker in order to impeach Joe Biden is "very interesting".

During a radio interview with Wayne Allyn Root, the far-right host told the former president that while he hopes he does run in the 2024 US Presidential Election - in the meantime, he could run for Speaker of the House and "wipe out" President Biden.

Root told the 74-year-old ex-POTUS on Friday: "Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I'm hoping you'll run in 2024, but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? A House seat in Florida. Win big. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the House by 50 seats.

"And then you become the Speaker of the House, lead the impeachment of Biden and start criminal investigations against Biden. You'll wipe him out for this last two years and then you'll be president... Do it! Do it! You'll be a folk hero to conservatives."

It's fair to say that Trump seemed quite keen on the idea, saying: "That's so interesting. You know that's very interesting, that's so interesting. People have said, 'Run for the Senate, OK, run for the senate,' but you know what? Your idea might be better. It's very interesting."

A number of people have since commented on the suggestion that Trump should run for House Speaker, with one person writing: "Yes because revenge is a much better reason to run for a position than bettering the lives of the people you are elected to serve. Jesus..."

Another said: "Why would he do a foolish thing like that? Everyone, well with common sense knows Trump should never run for public office ever again!!!!"

A third wrote: "America has to look like Idiocracy to outsiders."

Trump, who was in office between 2017 and 2021, was the first US President to be impeached twice.

His first impeachment took place on December 18, 2019, and saw him accused of putting pressure on Ukraine to find damaging information on Biden and his son Hunter.

The Republican was impeached for a second time on January 13, 2021, over his role in inciting the violent insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6. Trump was acquitted in both of his impeachment trials.
