German activist Naomi Seibt, often referred to as the "Anti-Greta" for her outspoken opposition to climate change activism, has filed for political asylum in the United States.
The 25-year-old, who has garnered international attention for her controversial views, claims that she is facing persecution in her home country for her political beliefs and advocacy of free speech, per the Independent.
The Asylum Petition and Its Implications
Seibt has filed her petition for asylum under Section 208 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows individuals facing persecution based on political views to seek refuge in the U.S.
She argues that if she were to return to Germany, she could be subjected to imprisonment or even physical harm due to her activism.
“I have now applied for asylum, which means that I’m waiting for an interview. And, in the meantime, I’m here legally,” Seibt explained in an interview with Fox News Digital.
She further revealed that her ultimate goal is to obtain U.S. citizenship, citing the hope and freedom she feels in America.
“My goal in the meantime is to become an American citizen in the future because this country has given me so much hope,” Seibt said.
Elon Musk’s Support for Seibt’s Cause
One of the more intriguing aspects of Seibt's asylum application is her connection to tech mogul Elon Musk.
Seibt claims that Musk became aware of her views after she publicly stated her support for the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party during the European elections in June 2024.
Following her post, Musk allegedly reached out to Seibt privately on X (formerly Twitter), offering his support for her position.
“I made a post during the European elections in June 2024, where I said: ‘My name is Naomi Seibt, and I’m voting for the AfD,’ and that was the very first time that Musk interacted with me,” she explained.
Seibt went on to describe how Musk has been supportive of her, even confirming his understanding of the risks she faces in Europe.
“Elon has been terrified to go to Europe and knows that there is an extremely high threat and has confirmed this to me personally,” Seibt said.
She also claimed that Musk gave his approval for her asylum application, further solidifying her case.
Surveillance and Alleged Threats in Germany
Seibt claims she has long faced threats and intimidation in her home country, where she says she has been monitored by German intelligence services for years.
“In 2024, I found out that I had been spied on by German intelligence for years,” Seibt said, adding that she also faces regular death threats from Antifa.
Despite these threats, Seibt claims that the German government has not offered her any protection.
“I went to the German police, and they told me that they can’t do anything about it as long as I have not actually been raped or killed,” she said. “I am not getting protection from the German government even though I am at major risk of potentially being killed.”
Seibt also fears legal repercussions if she returns to Germany, where laws have been tightened to curb dissenting political speech.
“It is illegal to damage the reputation of a politician in Germany. This law was extended under Angela Merkel, Article 188, and now people are being arrested. And their houses are being raided for just social media posts,” she warned.
Seibt believes that if she returns, she will be targeted by authorities. “As soon as I come back to Germany, I feel that they will try to arrest me.”
