The FBI has announced that it is offering a large reward for information leading to the safe return of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie.
Guthrie has been missing since Saturday from her home in Arizona, and several alleged ransom notes have emerged, with one in particular being taken very seriously.
Authorities have put up a big reward for Nancy Guthrie’s return
On Thursday, the FBI announced a $50,000 reward for anyone who has information that leads to the discovery of Guthrie, mother of long-time Today host Savannah.
She was taken from her Tucson home on Saturday night, before a ransom note with demands, a deadline, and some specific details that make it credible emerged.
The FBI has been sent in to work alongside law enforcement in Pima County to see that the 84-year-old, who has limited mobility but is of sound mind, is returned to her desperate family safely.
FBI put up $50,000 for Nancy Guthrie’s return
Heith Janke, an FBI special agent from the Bureau’s Phoenix branch, held a press conference to announce the reward.
he said: “The FBI is now working this case jointly with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, and we’re going to start today by announcing a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”
FBI staff have been deployed in the area alongside local police after blood was found on the missing woman’s porch. The search is now into a fifth day, and a deadline mentioned in the alleged ransom note - 5:00pm MT on Thursday - is fast approaching.
Sheriff Chris Nanos, of the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, said: ”We believe Nancy is still out there.
“We want her home.
“The sheriff’s department, along with all of our partners at the FBI, has been working around the clock, and we just want her home and to find a way to get to the bottom of all of this.”
On the note, Janke said: “As with every lead, we are taking it seriously. We are in communication with the family. While we advise and recommend, from a law enforcement perspective, any action taken on any ransom is ultimately decided by the family.”
