The search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie, has intensified with the involvement of President Donald Trump.
The 84-year-old has been missing since Saturday, January 31, when she was dropped off at her Arizona home by her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, who was the last person to see her.
On February 4, President Trump took to Truth Social to offer his support for Nancy's family, revealing that he had spoken with Savannah and promised to mobilize federal law enforcement agencies in the search for her mother.
“I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY,” he wrote.
“We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely. The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP," he added.
According to the Daily Mail, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department had initially returned the property to the Guthrie family, but following Trump’s intervention, federal agents began working alongside local authorities to investigate the case.
The investigation took a more intense turn with the arrival of FBI investigators and a sheriff's department pickup truck at Nancy’s property on February 4.
Investigative Developments
Signs of a struggle were evident at Nancy’s home, located in the upscale Catalina Foothills neighborhood.
Investigators discovered her phone, wallet, and car at the property, while a Ring doorbell was removed, and blood was found by the entrance.
The 84-year-old, who suffers from physical ailments and relies on medication, was last seen at around 9:30PM on January 31.
Her Apple Watch, which stopped syncing with her pacemaker around 2AM the following morning, suggests she was taken from her home during that time.
Authorities are investigating possible connections to previous incidents, including a trespassing case from January near Nancy's home. They have also questioned NBC, Savannah Guthrie's employer, about any troubling fan interactions that might be relevant.
Savannah Guthrie's Tearful Plea
As the search for her mother enters its fourth day, Savannah made an emotional public appeal, alongside her siblings, Annie and Camron, asking for their mother’s safe return.
In an Instagram video shared on February 4, she addressed both her mother and any potential abductors, urging them to come forward.
“We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media,” Savannah shared. “As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated."
"We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us," she added.
In her emotional message, the news anchor emphasized her mother’s fragile health and the urgency of her condition.
“She is 84 years old. Her health, her heart is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer,” she explained.
Savannah also shared how deeply her family values their mother, calling her “our heart and our home.” She urged Nancy, if she could hear her message, to stay strong and reassured her mother that the family would not rest until they were reunited.
“Everyone is looking for you, mommy, everywhere. We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again. We speak to you every moment and we pray without ceasing and we rejoice in advance for the day that we hold you in our arms again. We love you," she said.
Savannah’s siblings also expressed their love and longing for their mother. “The light is missing from our lives. Nancy is our mother. We are her children. She is our beacon,” said Annie, her sister.
“She holds fast to joy in all of life's circumstances. She chooses joy, day after day. Despite already having passed through great trials of pain and grief, we are always going to be merely human. Just normal human people who need our mom. Mama, mama, if you're listening, we need you to come home. We miss you," Annie added.
Camron, their brother, concluded the emotional video with a heartfelt message, saying: “We love you mama. Stay strong.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to lead the search, offering a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
While there has been no confirmation regarding a ransom or specific suspects, investigators remain hopeful that the widespread attention will yield critical information.
