Epstein, who was 66 at the time, was booked into prison in July 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking underage girls and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking.

Due to this case being high profile, the financier was segregated from the general population at the New York prison as there were fears for his safety.

The 66-year-old's mental health began to decline on July 18, 2019, after the judge denied him bail and he subsequently attempted to take his own life, as reported by the New York Post.

Following an initial unsuccessful attempt, Epstein died by suicide weeks later in his cell, and his death has since been the center of widespread debate.

Despite years of speculation, conspiracy theories, and online sleuthing, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has delivered what he says is the definitive answer.

“There’s video clear as day,” Bongino said on Fox & Friends. “He’s the only person in there and the only person coming out. You can see it.”

He continued: “There’s no DNA, there’s no audio, there’s no fingerprints, there’s no suspects, there’s no accomplices, there’s no tips, there is nothing. If you have it, I’m happy to see it.”

FBI Director Kash Patel echoed the same message on Fox News the night before, confirming: “We are diligently working on that. It takes time to go through years of investigations.”

Both officials say Epstein’s 2019 death was conclusively ruled a suicide by officials in the first Trump administration, per NBC News.

Before stepping into his current role, Bongino was one of Epstein’s most vocal doubters.

In a January 4, 2024, podcast, he played a clip from a journalist claiming she was “100%” sure Epstein had been killed “because he made his whole living blackmailing people.”

Bongino added he’d heard similar claims from another reporter and called them “super important.”

“This is where I get really upset at the media,” Bongino said in the same episode, accusing journalists of ignoring obvious red flags. “I’m amazed at how few people are putting two and two together.”

Just weeks before his appointment as deputy FBI director, he doubled down on-air: “I’m not ever gonna let this story go,” he said. “I’m not letting it go ever.”

Patel and Bongino also have a long history of claiming that the FBI has been “weaponized” by the Biden administration and deep state actors to target Donald Trump.

They’ve suggested the agency covered up key details about the January 6 Capitol riot, failed to properly investigate the 2021 DNC and RNC pipe bombs, and even helped ignite the riot itself. Both men have accused FBI agents of committing crimes and trying to “overthrow” Trump.

With supporters now watching closely, many are asking why the pair hasn’t arrested the so-called “government gangsters” they once railed against.
