Fears World War 3 could begin today as Trump hints he may use nuclear weapon to wipe out Iran
Fears of a World War III have intensified after President Donald Trump warned that Iran could be wiped out 'in one night' in a recent speech.
The comment came as the US and Israel remain in conflict with Iran following joint strikes launched on February 28, which led to the death of many people, including Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, his daughter, granddaughter, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law.
Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks across the Middle East.
Trump's Deadline For Iran Looms
On Monday (April 6), during a speech at the White House, Trump threatened Iran by saying the entire country "could be taken out in one night," adding: "And that night could be tomorrow night."
The warning comes ahead of a key deadline set by the president for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route through which around 20% of the world’s oil supply passes.
The 79-year-old has demanded an 'acceptable' deal by 20:00 Washington DC time on Tuesday (April 7), and added that if the deadline is missed, Iran could effectively be pushed back to the 'Stone Ages,' per BBC News.
"They're going to have no bridges," he said.
"They're going to have no power plants."
His comments have led many to believe that such destruction could only be achieved through nuclear weapons.
One user wrote on X: "The only way to take a country out in one night is with nukes. Remove this lunatic now before he burns the whole world down & starts a nuclear war."
Another added: "President Trump hints he may use a nuclear weapon against Iran and says the day of reckoning could be tomorrow, where the entire country of Iran could be taken out in one night."
Trump's Previous Truth Social Post
Trump's threat comes after he shared an explosive message on his online platform over the weekend, warning that he would rain down 'hell' on Iran if the Strait is not reopened.
"Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F***in' Strait, you crazy b***ards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!"
"Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP," he concluded.
Negotiations Stall As Strikes Continue
Despite Trump's rhetoric, he has suggested that some Iranian leaders were negotiating in 'good faith,' though he admitted the outcome remains uncertain.
"We're going to find out," he added.
Iran has rejected proposals for a temporary ceasefire.
They have instead called for a permanent end to the war and the lifting of sanctions.
Efforts to broker peace have been complicated, with Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt involved in mediation attempts.
A regional official familiar with the talks said communication has been slow due to ongoing disruption.
"To convey messages to Iran, getting a response in a reasonable time is not possible," the official said. "The average time of response has been a day or so."
Meanwhile, Central Command has reported that US forces have carried out over 13,000 strikes across Iran since the war began.
Legal experts have also expressed concerns about the consequences of targeting civilian infrastructure.
"Obliterating all power plants, threatening coercive actions against the civilian population to try to bring a government to the negotiating table - those kinds of things are all flatly illegal," Tess Bridgeman said.
However, Trump dismissed such concerns by stating that he was not “worried” and claiming the people of Iran would be "willing to suffer to have freedom," per WSJ.
