Authorities have released new video footage that gives the public its first look at the suspected gunman in the deadly Brown University shooting that left two people dead and nine others injured on Saturday evening.
The clip shows the suspect leaving the scene and turning a corner, according to Providence Police Department Commander Timothy O’Hara at a late‑night press briefing.
In the footage, the man is seen calmly walking onto Hope Street dressed in all dark clothing. His face was hidden from the cameras by what appeared to be either a hood or a full face covering, police said.
Commander O’Hara added that the suspect, who witnesses described as appearing to be in his 30s, then turned right onto Waterman Street. Witnesses also reported that the suspect could have been wearing a gray camo face mask, O’Hara noted.
Manhunt Continues
Brown University stayed in a shelter‑in‑place order into early Sunday while students remained under lockdown and police hunted for the still‑unidentified suspect, per BBC News.
The shooter opened fire just after 4:00PM in a single classroom inside the Barus & Holley Engineering building, striking a group of students gathered for a study session ahead of a final exam for their Principles of Economics class.

Professor Rachel Friedberg, who teaches the class but was not present during the attack, learned what happened from one of the teaching assistants who was in the room.
She explained how the classroom layout played a role in the chaos.
“The room has stadium seating with doors that enter at the top,” Friedberg told Ocean State Media. “He said that the shooter came in the doors, yelled something — he couldn’t remember what he yelled — and started shooting.
“Students started to scramble to try to get away from the shooter, trying to get lower down in the stadium seating, and people got shot,” Friedberg recalled the teaching assistant saying. “I don’t know if they’re the only ones who got shot or not.”
The teaching assistant survived and was not wounded, but did go to the hospital with several students who were shot.

All Victims Were Students, University Says
Brown University President Christina H. Paxson confirmed Sunday morning that all 11 people shot were students.
Of the nine students who survived, all were taken to local hospitals. According to Paxson, six students are in critical, but stable condition, one student is in critical condition, one student is in stable condition, and one student was treated and released.
Paxson acknowledged how difficult the hours following the shooting have been for the community.
“I know the passing hours of this emergency have been filled with stress and anxiety for many in our community.
"This is an unimaginably tragic day — a day that no university community is ever prepared for. While we prepare for major crises, we always pray this day never comes. This is a time for our campus to care for each other and support each other.”
Officials have not released the identities of any of the victims.

Professor Friedberg said she did not know if either of the two people killed were students in her class.
“I don’t know if they were my students. It’s really surreal to think about. Just horrible,” she told the outlet.
In the wake of the shooting, Brown University has canceled all Sunday exams and said it will share future academic scheduling updates at a later time.
President Paxson made it clear the university’s priority remains supporting the community.
“Our full focus right now is on our community, their safety and providing support for the victims and their families. I am not able to share further information about the shooting victims at this time.”
