The cause of death for former child star Matthew Mindler has been confirmed.

Back in August, the 19-year-old Millersville University student had gone missing and was tragically later found dead three days later.

In an announcement to fellow students, officials for the university revealed: "It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University."

And last month, the Lancaster County Coroner's Office revealed to TMZ that the teenager had sadly died by suicide, but they were still awaiting toxicology results to confirm the cause of death.

On Thursday, October 14, TMZ reported that the cause of death was ruled as sodium nitrate toxicity.

Sodium nitrate is an oxidizing agent that is frequently used to preserve foods like meat. However, the outlet reports how it can also cause hypertension and low blood pressure, which can result in death.

As well as the medical examiner's ruling, the teenager's mom, Monica Mindler, also confirmed the news to the outlet, and spoke out about the dangers of the compound.

Miss Mindler had previously revealed that her son had been suffering from "crippling anxiety", and has since revealed that the teenager had purchased the substance online with ease for a reported $15. His mom reveals that he purchased "enough to kill 4 people", per TMZ.

After scanning her son's search history, Miss Mindler also told the outlet that Matthew had looked up how to use sodium nitrate for the purpose of suicide. She added that she had no idea prior to her son's that he was struggling with suicidal ideations.

"Monica hopes someone else's life can be saved if folks know what warning signs to look for," the article states.

The former child star was perhaps best known for his role in the 2011 comedy movie Our Idiot Brother, in which he played River Byng alongside Hollywood stars such as Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks.

Our thoughts are with Mindler's family, friends, and fans at this time.
