Holdout juror who sparked Lindsay Clancy mistrial speaks out for first time with major claim
Weeks after Lindsay Clancy’s court case ended in a mistrial and made headlines across the world, the sole juror who believed the mother of three should be declared guilty of killing her children has spoken out for the first time.
Michael P. Desronvil, 48, refused to find Clancy not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, a decision which turned the six-week trial on its head and landed him in the centre of an online storm against him.
The juror is a very religious Republican
The man, described as “a devoted father and man of God” by his attorney, and who also has a history of abuse allegations, gave a statement about the mistrial to News Nation.
Recalling the trial, Desronvil said: “I didn’t have any doubts. As I tried to explain different possible theories during deliberation, I kept getting cut off as if I had doubts based on the evidence present.
“Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses, and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she [Clancy] knew exactly what she was doing and planned.”
Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial did not come to an unanimous verdict, it ended in a mistrial on September 4, and prosecutors have not yet decided whether to retry her or not.
The 36-year-old mother has been accused of killing her three children before jumping out of a window in January 2023.
The Massachusetts mom allegedly strangled her kids, Cora, five; Dawson, three; and eight-month-old Callan, before throwing herself out of a second-story window in an attempt to take her own life.
Clancy, who survived, now requires a wheelchair and has not denied strangling her children, though she claims she was suffering from undiagnosed postpartum psychosis.
Desronvil believes he has been ridiculed for his political beliefs
Allegedly, Desronvil believes he’s been targeted by the media over the mistrial because he’s a staunch Republican on a jury panel he claimed was mostly leftist activists.
So-called activists may have come this conclusion after attorney Edward Paltzik said in a statement on X: “This American Hero and Champion of Justice loves the United States of America as the greatest country in the world; cherishes our sacred Constitution as the pinnacle of human liberty; and supports our amazing leader, President Donald J. Trump, as a fellow defender of common-sense, liberty, and sanity.”
In a video reportedly recounting an off-record conversation Desronvil posted to YouTuber Ray Marcel’s channel Fugitive TV, the true crime host said: “He believes he might be getting targeted because of that, because the media and the reporters, as you would see, they kind of have left views.
“He was on a juror panel with people of the Democratic party.
“And this is also why some people are shocked that it’s a black guy that stood his ground and not only that, the world is going to be shocked now that it’s a black guy who was a Republican.”
The YouTuber also claimed that eight jurors on the 12-person panel voted for a not-guilty verdict for Clancy on the first day of deliberations, and the jurors who voted to acquit her were “activists.”
