Newly released Department of Justice documents detail Jeffrey Epstein's Amazon order history, including a series of book purchases that appear deeply troubling in hindsight.
Among them were several works tied to Russian author Vladimir Nabokov, best known for his 1955 novel Lolita, which tells the story of a paedophile who becomes infatuated with a 12-year-old girl.
The disgraced financier, who notoriously nicknamed his private jet “the Lolita Express,” bought Lectures on Literature by Nabokov as well as Discourse and Ideology in Nabokov's Prose by David H. J. Larmour, The Mirror reported.
Epstein's reading material also included Justine, purchased in 2016. First published in 1791, the book contains graphic depictions of rape and torture and led to author, Marquis De Sade, being arrested and imprisoned on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte.
That same year, he bought Nobody Likes A C***block*, a 2016 paperback by R. Swanson and illustrated by Jess Jansen.
Though filled with adult humor, it is styled to resemble a children’s book, featuring a cover image of an adult bear reading to a young bear tucked into bed.
Other titles included The Stranger Beside Me, Ann Rule’s 1980 true crime memoir about serial killer Ted Bundy, and Lying by neuroscientist Sam Harris, which argues that “we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie”.
Beyond books, Epstein’s purchases extended to children’s clothing. On February 19, 2018, he ordered two sets of girls’ uniforms, one beige with a “school pleated hem” and another white and black with a polo neck, both described online as intended for school-aged girls.
On June 28, 2017, he bought a pack of Gerber Baby Girls sleeper suits, followed the next month by Bright Starts Grab and Stack Blocks delivered to New York.
Some items were explicitly sexual, including Vagifirm, marketed for “vaginal tightening,” a “Portable Fitness Exercise Exotic Stripper Strip Spinning Pole” purchased in 2014, and a leather whip ordered in 2016.
Other items ranged from a Brass & Leather Sailor Look Brass Antique Sea Marine Telescope and an embroidered sombrero to microscopic cameras.
Lawmakers Speak Out On Newly Accessed Files
The disturbing shopping history comes as US representatives who recently reviewed unredacted files for the first time have begun speaking publicly about what they saw.
Representative Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, said the documents referenced several previously unreported young victims, including one as young as nine.
“You read through these files, and you read about 15-year-old girls, 14-year-old girls, 10-year-old girls. I saw a mention of a 9-year-old girl today. I mean, this is just preposterous and scandalous,” he said.
Raskin noted that one document contained 18 redactions, four of which involved men born before 1970.
Six men’s names, including one foreign government official, were withheld in the publicly released material.
Republican lawmaker Thomas Massie stated the individuals were “likely incriminated by their inclusion in these files,” while Democrat Ro Khanna argued there was “no explanation why those people were redacted”.
DOJ files detail relationship with Celina Dubin
Separate newly disclosed DOJ documents also highlight Epstein’s close relationship with Celina Dubin, now 30, the daughter of his longtime former partner Eva Dubin, a former Miss Sweden and 4th runner up Miss Universe in 1980, who is now married to billionaire investor Glenn Dubin.
According to a Business Insider report cited in the new material, Epstein told friends in 2014 that Celina, who was 19-years-old at the time, was the only person he wanted to marry.
A family spokesperson described the remark as an “offhand comment,” adding that the Dubins were unaware of it.
“There is no justification for dragging Celina into a public controversy she had nothing to do with,” the spokesperson said.
The files show Epstein referred to Celina as his “goddaughter” and maintained frequent contact with her beginning in childhood.
In August 2010, two years after his conviction for soliciting and procuring a minor for prostitution, Eva invited him to her Colorado home while her daughter was hosting friends.
In 2012, she once again invited Epstein to attend a lacrosse game at Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, where Celina, then a senior at Trinity High School, was playing.
"It was great fun, my first game,” he wrote to Celina, per the new documents. “I wish you could have come to a game where I played offense, but I’m glad you enjoyed it!!!!” she replied in an online chat. He watched from the sidelines with her parents, the spokesperson said.
As a teenager, she exchanged hundreds of messages with Epstein, referring to him as “Uncle F.”
The documents also show Epstein offering to buy clothing for Celina during a 2011 trip to Paris.
“Anything!! You know what I like, I also need some cool but also flattering and somewhat sexy (ish) shirts that I can wear when I go out at night,” she wrote. “100%,” he replied.
That same year, she sought modeling advice, so he emailed modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel.
Epstein also contacted Harvard Professor of Mathematics and Biology Martin Nowak in 2011, writing: “My goddaughter and most favorite person in the whole world is coming up to Harvard on sept 1-2,, [sic] please show her or help in any way you and she agree,” he wrote.
A Dubin family spokesperson rejected any suggestion of improper influence, stating: “The suggestion that she got into Harvard because of an email from Epstein to a math professor is gratuitous and offensive undermining of a young woman’s significant accomplishments.”
Celina enrolled at Harvard in 2013 and was later named one of the “15 Hottest Freshman.” She graduated Magna cum laude in 2017 with a BA in Psychology, Global Health, and Health Policy and earned her medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2022.
She is currently a resident physician at Mount Sinai, according to her LinkedIn.
