What started as a spat over a spending bill turned into a full-blown online brawl, with Musk throwing out one of the biggest bombs of his life: that Trump’s name appears in the Jeffrey Epstein files and that’s why they haven’t been made public.

“Time to drop the really big bomb,” Musk wrote on X. “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

He wasn’t done. Musk doubled down just hours later: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”

As Musk’s Epstein tweet exploded across the internet, one high-profile voice jumped into the fire - David Schoen, the attorney who represented Epstein just days before his death in 2019.

“I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein’s defence as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died,” Schoen wrote on X.

“He sought my advice for months before that. I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him!”

Schoen, who previously represented Trump during his second impeachment trial, is a specialist in federal criminal defense and civil rights.

He also publicly suggested in 2020 that Epstein didn’t die by suicide, telling Fox News the disgraced financier was “upbeat” and that they had “mapped out a strategy going forward.”

At the heart of Musk’s explosive tweet are the so-called “Epstein files”—a collection of court documents tied to Epstein’s criminal cases. These records reportedly contain allegations that Epstein procured underage girls for powerful individuals.

Trump had previously promised to release the full files during his second term. The first batch dropped earlier this year, but many were underwhelmed by what was included.

While being named in the documents does not mean criminal wrongdoing, the mere association has been enough to fuel online speculation.

This wasn’t some out-of-nowhere beef.

Musk and Trump were once tight political allies. But it all started falling apart when Musk slammed Trump’s beloved “One Big Beautiful Act,” a multi-trillion-dollar spending bill.

Musk didn’t hold back, labeling the legislation a “pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and a “disgusting abomination.”

Trump, appearing visibly rattled, addressed the feud from the Oval Office.

“Elon and I have a great relationship,” Trump said. “But I don’t know if we will anymore. I was surprised, because… we had a wonderful sendoff. He said wonderful things about me” at Musk’s May 30 departure press conference.

The president added: “I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill. He never had a problem until right after he left.”

And then came the jab: “At some point they miss it so badly… some of them actually become hostile. I don’t know what it is, it’s sort of ‘Trump derangement syndrome,’ I guess they call it. They leave, they wake up in the morning, the glamor is gone, the whole world is different, and they become hostile.”

Musk responded in classic Musk fashion.

“Whatever,” he fired back. “Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill.”

Then, in a direct dig at Trump’s signature language, he added: “In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this! Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way.”

He also pushed back on Trump's claim that he was in-the-know about the bill: “False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”
