Donald Trump's niece has revealed the real reason he wasn’t at his son, Donald Jr. 's, wedding to Bettina Anderson last weekend.
Wedding invites are often seen as the true gauge of one’s value to either the bride, groom, or both, and while by all accounts, Trump was invited to attend his son’s wedding, it was the U.S. leader’s decision to decline.
Trump’s 48-year-old son, who tied the knot with Bettina in the Bahamas on Saturday, May 23, had been married to Vanessa Kay Trump before their divorce in 2018.
According to reports, the loved-up pair had been dating for two years, with news of their engagement announced by Trump himself at a White House party in December 2025.
With pictures of their marriage celebrations now surfacing online, Trump’s absence has very quickly sparked attention.
Taking to Truth Social to explain his nonattendance, Trump said: "While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so."
However, it has emerged that United States Special Envoy for Peace, Jared Kushner, the husband of Ivanka Trump, was in attendance, despite reports stating that he was supposed to be negotiating with Iran — bringing Trump’s no-show into further question.
In an update on X, provided by Trump’s estranged niece, Mary, she claimed: “Can't wait to hear what the family-values crowd has to say about the fact that Donald isn't going to his own son's wedding bc he needs to--spend the weekend at his golf club.”
Mary, whose relationship with her uncle is publicly acrimonious, appeared on The Dean Obeidallah Show following Saturday’s wedding.
“Well I don’t mean to be reductive, but this is essentially true that the reason we’re in this mess is because Donald never has been loved and, unfortunately, that is the thing he most wanted and still wants, but due to complicated circumstances my grandfather actually and my grandmother gets a little credit for this too, they made Donald somebody who desperately wants to be loved and who is utterly unlovable,” she claimed.
When asked about his absence from his own son’s wedding, Mary claimed: “Well, this is the other thing he’s incapable of loving as well. So it’s very difficult to be loved if you don’t love anybody.”
With Trump’s weekends frequently spent on one of his many golf courses, his scheduled golfing rendezvous was purportedly canceled, with the U.S. head of state remaining in Washington.
With the country locked in an ongoing war with Iran and diplomatic relations across the Middle East, as well as in Europe, particularly strained, Trump’s nonappearance was perhaps not as surprising as first thought.
