The contents of a second ransom note allegedly sent by Nancy Guthrie's abductors has been revealed, claiming she is dead.
As previously reported, Nancy - who is the mother of Today anchor Savannah Guthrie - has been missing since the early hours of February 1.
She was reported missing after she failed to arrive to meet a friend, and it is believed she was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home by a masked intruder after a chilling image of a person wearing a balaclava was captured on her home security cameras, and blood was found on her porch.
Several ransom notes were received in the wake of Nancy's disappearance, including two that claim the 84-year-old is dead.
A second message, sent days after her disappearance, claimed Nancy - who relied on daily medication for her heart - stated that she had died, per NBC News.
According to the outlet, which did not publicly release the contents of the note out of respect to the family, the note indicated that Nancy had died but did not contain an apoligy or request for payment for the release of her body.
Another note which was reportedly sent to KOLD-TV on February 6 claimed Nancy "perished shortly after she was taken" and added that "she is buried in nature now."
The note reportedly ended with the words: "We are truly sorry," per Ktar.
While the two messages reportedly did not come from the same IP address, the sender allegedly used the same type of secure server to conceal their location in both instances, per KOLD.
CBS reports that investigators familiar with the case believe that the same person, or people, sent both of the notes, and that they are likely to be the abductors.
The existence of the second note was first acknowledged on February 6, as the FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department told People in a statement that they were "aware of a new message" regarding Nancy's disappearance.
The statement added: "Investigators are actively inspecting the information provided in the message for its authenticity."
One day after their statement, Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, shared an emotional appeal on Instagram, appealing to Nancy's captors.
Savannah said in the recorded message: "We received your message and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her.
"This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay."
Nancy was last seen at her home in Tucson at around 9.30PM on January 31 after she was dropped off at her home.
She was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to show up to a church service, and her whereabouts remain unknown.
The sheriff's department confirmed on June 22 that the investigation into Nancy's disappearance "remains active and ongoing," adding: "The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to work closely with the FBI as investigators follow up on leads, review information, and pursue the facts surrounding this case."
