Texas man decapitated his wife just months after they got married
A man who ended up serving a 40-year sentence for the decapitation and murder of his wife was caught on camera doing something chilling hours after the crime.
The 2023 killing in Waller County had been revealed after deputies said they received a phone call from Jared James Dicus’s parents regarding the death of a woman.
That woman was later identified as Dicus’s wife, 21-year-old Anggy Diaz, after her remains were found at the 200 block of Oak Hollow Boulevard.
Dicus, then 23, was charged with her death and was sentenced to spend his term at the Wainwright Unit in Lovelady, Texas.
But before anyone was alerted to Anggy’s death, security footage revealed what Dicus did after dismembering her in their home.
In the hours after her murder, he was seen on a surveillance camera stealing a beer from the store where his wife worked and drinking it outside.
Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber spoke with Houston criminal defense attorney Anthony Osso about this very detail, where Osso revealed that the defendant's actions were 'not in line with someone worried about the consequences' of his actions.
Later, deputies reportedly arrived at the home and found portions of Anggy’s body dismembered and blood at the scene.
Sheriff Troy Guidry said the pair were living in a small cabin behind the parents’ home, which is where they believe the murder took place.
Per the officers, the parents checked their home after he allegedly made a comment which concerned them.
After finding her body, they called 911.
Sheriff Troy Guidry said, per ABC 7 Chicago: “A portion of the body was dismembered, and the residence was covered in blood. Gruesome scene at best.”
He claimed Dicus stayed at the scene until deputies arrived and was then taken into custody.
"Evidence shows the suspect used a kitchen knife," Guidry added.
Dicus went on to take a plea agreement with the state and was not eligible for parole until 2043.
On January 16, 2026, Dicus was found dead in his cell.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice confirmed Dicus died as the result of a self-inflicted injury.
In light of the murder, Waller County Judge Carbett J. Duhon III revealed he had taken down his post of the couple after he wed the pair in the fall before Anggy’s death.
He then posted to his Facebook page to clarify why he deleted it.
He wrote: “I'm sure many of you have heard about an occurrence yesterday in the Oak Hollow area of Waller County where a young man was arrested and charged with murdering his wife. This involved a young couple that I married in October of 2022.
“During my short time with them, they were a very nice young couple. As with many of you, I'm greatly saddened and shocked by the news of this tragic event and my prayers are with all of their families. Out of respect for the families, I have taken down my photo with the couple and the post announcing their marriage, primarily due to the insensitive nature of some comments that were being made on that post.”
He concluded: “This matter will now go through the our court system, and I am confident that the Waller County Sheriff's Office and the Waller County District Attorney's Office will see to it that justice is served."
