President Donald Trump slammed Barack Obama on Truth Social after the former president reportedly criticized him in an interview.
The 79-year-old posted an AI picture of Obama, former FBI Director James Comey, and former CIA Director John Brennan dressed in orange prison jumpsuits while holding booking placards on his social media platform on Sunday (May 24).
The image was arranged in a "Brady Bunch" style tic-tac-toe grid that Trump labeled "The Shady Bunch."
"This is a bad (Sick!) group of people. Very destructive to our great Nation. Caused tremendous damage through Weaponization! President DJT," he wrote in the caption.
The post is the latest escalation in the president's ongoing attacks against Obama.
Without providing evidence, Trump has repeatedly accused the 64-year-old of manufacturing intelligence designed to undermine his 2016 campaign after he defeated Hillary Clinton in the election.
A spokesperson for Obama pushed back strongly, saying: "Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response.
"But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one. These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction," they added, per BBC News.
Trump’s latest post came shortly after Obama appeared to criticize presidents who use the Department of Justice to target political rivals during an interview with Stephen Colbert.
"The White House shouldn't be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting whoever," the 44th president told the late-night host, who just ended his iconic show after 33 years on air.
"The idea is that the attorney general is the people's lawyer. It's not the president's consigliere," he added.
A "consigliere" is an adviser or counselor to the leader of a criminal organization, such as a Mafia family.
Obama also suggested the principle "probably" needs to be formally codified into law by Congress.
The White House later responded sharply to Obama’s remarks.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said in a statement to USA TODAY: “Barack Hussein Obama is the king of weaponization and documents declassified last year revealed he was present for key meetings that led to critical steps in the opening of the Russia Hoax investigation against President Trump.
"Conversely, President Trump has restored integrity to the Department of Justice that Obama and Biden broke," Jackson added.
