Viewers of Mackenzie Shirilla Netflix doc warned about documentary that shows 'more in-depth' version of story
Fans of The Crash documentary have been told about another film which unveils more details about the grim Mackenzie Shirilla case.
The documentary on Shirilla's murder case reached No. 1 on Netflix in the days since its release on Friday (May 16).
She was infamously found guilty of killing two men after intentionally crashing her car into a brick wall at over 100 mph in 2022.
Shirilla was just 17 at the time, though a judge would determine that she crashed the car on purpose in a premeditated murder.
As a result, she was convicted of 12 felony charges and sentenced to two concurrent life sentences, with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
While people were intrigued with how Shirilla presented herself in the doc, and how her loved ones backed her to no end, it turns out that this isn't the first true crime piece on the harrowing incident.
Previous true crime docs about Mackenzie Shirilla
Netflix users might be hooked to the Shirilla case after watching Netflix's take on the situation, as they delved into what officers thought was an accident at first, before realising it was something far more chilling.
As some details had admittedly been left out of the doc, true crime viewers may be wondering if there are any existing films which had also covered the murder case.
The Crash isn't the first time Shirilla's case has gone under the microscope, as it has been featured in at least two other true crime series, say the Mirror.
The first instance is in season 2, episode 7, of Mean Girl Murders.
This series focuses on real-life cases which remain a mystery, focusing on the darker side of female relationships and rivalry, which can sometimes escalate into shocking acts of violence.
The episode is titled "Under The Influence," and the synopsis reads: "A tragic accident exposes the dark realities behind the glamorous life of an influencer, revealing the jealousy and rivalry in the quest for online fame."
The entire series is available to stream now, on Hulu, HBO Max or via Discovery+.
But this isn't the only title which covers the murders, as true crime series Killer Cases also features an episode, covering the circumstances surrounding the crash.
This episode is the 12th of its fourth season, and it's called 'Murder on Wheels', it centering on Shirilla.
If you want to give this episode a watch, you can stream it on Hulu, Disney+, or Peacock.
Fan reaction to the other docs
Taking to X, one user penned: "Watching the Hulu version of the Mackenzie Shirilla case. It gives a more in-depth look than what Netflix showed.
:That b***h did a bench trial because she thought the judge was going to go easy on her. WRONGGG !! The judge gave her and the mother hell, as she should’ve!!"
Another claimed: "The #NetflixDocumentary really didn’t cover a lot. They even gave #MackenzieShirilla a decent edit.
"If you guys want to take a deeper dive, these 2 docs have more info. #MeanGirlmurders #KillerCases They’re both available on Hulu."
"Hulu conducted the docs way better imo," a third claimed.
