Footage has emerged of the baby that was allegedly left at an airport check-in desk after the parents didn't want to buy another ticket.

This bizarre story emerged on January 31 after the Jerusalem Post reported that a couple who held Belgian passports attempted to board a flight from Ben-Gurion airport in Tel Aviv to Brussels.

The couple turned up late at the Ryanair check-in desk to find it had already closed, and when later informed that they needed to purchase an extra ticket for their baby, they decided their flight was more important.

The couple reportedly hurried off to security in order to make their flight, leaving the baby unattended in a stroller on the check-in conveyor belt.

Footage of the incident has now emerged on social media, and it shows bewildered airport staff trying to get their head around the situation unfolding in front of them.

The cellphone footage displays a stunned member of staff declaring: "I'm in shock," before adding: "Poor thing. She left him here! [I swear] on my mom."

The Israeli authorities confirmed the series of events in a statement given to CNN, saying: "A couple and an infant with Belgian passports arrived for a flight at Terminal 1 without a ticket for the baby.

"The couple also arrived late for the flight, once the check-in for the flight was closed. The couple left the infant seat with the baby and ran toward the security checks at Terminal 1 in an attempt to reach the boarding gate for the flight."

According to Ryanair, infants can be included in travel plans during the booking process, but if the adults wish for the child to have their own seat, it must be paid for at the full price.

However, if the parents or guardians of the infant are happy with it sitting on their lap for the journey, this still requires a fee of $27 for each one-way flight.

Authorities have confirmed that the matter is not being investigated further, as when police arrived at the airport the parents had re-claimed their child.

It is unknown whether the parents and the child made their flight.
