Before we go to bed, we lock our doors to protect our homes from thieves. But there's an even more pernicious force out there just waiting to strike. In fact, they may have already struck, and you didn't even know it. One minute, you thought you were safe. The next, you're a victim - of a doorbell licker.

In Salinas, California, surveillance cameras caught a man licking a doorbell outside someone's home for three hours. And yes, I'm just surprised as you this didn't happen in Florida. News station WJXT4 uploaded the footage to Facebook, where it got more than 140,000 views. In the video, a glassy eyed man vigorously licks a doorbell, rarely breaking break eye contact with the camera, and it's just as creepy as it sounds.

In the comments, one Facebook user wrote, "For 3 hours without a break....Boys...take notes." Another joked, "He is performing cuniringus." A third added, "They cut off the end of the video where the doorbell can be seen smoking a cigarette." One Bird Box fan commented, "He took off the blindfold!" And on Twitter, one person advised, "Find yourself someone who looks at you the way this guy looks at that doorbell."

KION reports that the doorbell licker has been identified as 33-year-old Roberto Daniel Arroyo. And now, whenever anyone googles Roberto Daniel Arroyo, a bunch of news stories about him licking a doorbell will pop up. That's going to be awkward to explain at job interviews. Maybe he should own up to it on resume, and put 'proficient at licking doorbells.' (I assume it's already on his Tinder profile.)

"We were pleasantly surprised the image was so clear it didn't take us long to identify the individual," said Salina Police Department spokesperson Miguel Cabrera. Reportedly the security cameras also showed Arroyo move an extension cord to the front yard and relieve himself. Police say he could face misdemeanor charges of petty theft and prowling. Unfortunately, there's no explanation for why Arroyo was licking the doorbell. Some Facebook users think he was on drugs; I think he was in love.

Homeowner and doorbell licker victim Sylvia Dungan said, "You kind of laugh about it afterwards because, technically, he didn't harm anybody, he didn't break anything." The Dungans were out of town at the time of the incident, but their children were sleeping inside the house. "This just kind of reinforces how important it is to have security within your home," said Sylvia. When the Dungans came home, they cleaned their doorbell, but really, will it ever be clean again?
If you want to feel safe, maybe you should invest in some home security cameras. You never know who might be lurking outside. Some people look normal, but are hiding a dark secret. They're really a thief, a vandal, an arsonist, or a dude who licked a doorbell outside someone's house for three hours.
