There are certain warning signs for sex workers when it comes to customers, according to a brothel manager.
Many may think that they're clued up on the adult industry in what's becoming the age of OnlyFans, but the reality is that there's a ton that people have no idea about.
Catherine De Noire is a legal brothel manager who has pulled back the curtain on sex work and the realities of working in that environment.
While she is involved in the adult world, the psychology graduate is also a PhD student while running her own OnlyFans page.
After 10 years in the sex industry, she is now the brothel's highest-ranking employee, aged 32, and shares content about her work across her social media accounts.
De Noire has already revealed some of the acts that sex workers refuse from customers, and she's admitted that while she doesn't take part in any of the activity herself, her job is to keep her workers comfortable and safe.
She knows what's going on in her legal brothel at all times, and so she knows exactly what to look for when it comes to red flags in a potential customer.
The manager, who helps to welcome between 500 and 1,000 clients into the brothel every day, spoke exclusively to VT about her role in the operation and what her team has to be wary of.
When asked about the main red flags the brothel looks for, De Noire revealed: "They get refused entry if they are already drunk, not in a tipsy or funny way, but when they are really drunk or drugged, or when they are aggressive.
"When the customer wants to come to our place, he needs to go through reception."
The brothel manager explained: "So our receptionist will speak with them, and they will see if he's being disrespectful.
"If he's drunk, they will not let him in - we have a few layers of security, we have CCTV everywhere, just in case anything happens."
Appearance is also crucial, as De Noire pointed out: "When the client is entering the club, we need to see his full face.
"He can't wear a cap or any costume, because once we had a guy, and he wanted to enter in a polar bear costume.
"So he needed him to take the mask off, then he was allowed to enter. And also, no carrying any weapons, any knives or anything like that, we have a separate area for that."
She has previously admitted that individuals can earn up to $50,000 per month, yet the manager explained that there are some things which workers may turn down.
De Noire said of the NSFW acts: "We let each of the workers decide.
"We have women who've worked with us for many years, and they don't do the full service."
Every worker gets to decide what their boundaries are, according to the manager, who went on to give examples: "One of them specializes in squirting. So all she does is squirt on people.
"Sometimes the girls do tantric massages, sometimes they only do a strip show, so that is up to them.
"Sometimes the client can come, and [maybe] he's too big, or she doesn't feel good about doing XYZ with him."
But this isn't an issue, as she says she doesn't force any of her workers to do anything that they aren't really feeling.
"I always tell the girls, 'Look, you need to decide, you're an independent contractor, and if the client looks weird, or if he wants to do something with you that you don't want to do with him, just tell him no,'" she admitted.
De Noire then added: "Someone can do anal sex with one person, but then she can refuse to do anal sex for a second person, for any reason."
While figures over a month can vary, De Noire revealed the most earned in a single night by one of the sex workers at the brothel.
After some consideration, the manager admitted: "I think it was around €30,000 ($35,110), I mean, she earned this amount of money, and the next day she came to work.
"I told her, 'You should at least take a day off!' but she said, 'I still want to be here. It's going to be my second lucky day.'"
She then revealed more about the wealthy customer, saying: "It was like a normal-looking guy, and I think she spent the whole night with him.
"The next morning, they went for breakfast as well, so it was 14 hours or something like that."
While De Noire doesn't do any of the practical work, she stays on top of the business aspect, keeping track of payments, clients, CRM systems, and documentation - it's no joke.
