You might have some serious cash hiding in your house right now - and may not even be aware of it.
Since it's very nearly time for your annual spring clean, it's high time to remind you that you could be unknowingly sitting on previously discarded items that could bring you some serious bang for your buck.
But, if you're doing a quick overhaul, what are some of the items that you should be looking for that could spin you a profit?
Speaking to the New York Post, Real World Investor founder Adam Koprucki said that people are likely to have thrown away "items that could pay for their retirement."
So what kind of items should people keep an eye on when going through their belongings?
Well, if you're in the habit of never throwing away your old mobile phones (just in case you might need it one day...) then Adam says you may, in fact, be sitting on a treasure trove.
"The first-generation iPhone, released in 2007, sold for $499 new," Adam explained, "but sealed examples now fetch upwards of $20,000 at auction."
So, if you've never actually got around to throwing away that first iPhone you bought in 2007, keep hold of it.
Adam estimates that, by 2030, the first-generation iPhones could resell for as much as $50,000 if they're in mint condition.
In fact, this has already happened. In 2023, an unopened first-generation iPhone sold at auction for more than $60,000, while an even-rarer still 4GB iPhone 1 fetched over $190,000. That's a lot of zeroes.
Adam says not to just limit your line of sight to phones, either. Some classic money-spinners that you should keep a look out for include any Star Wars toys and rare Pokémon cards that you may have forgotten about.
Sealed Transformers toys, he says, could also fetch big bucks too - as much as $20,000 each.
Plus, if you just so happen to have forgotten about that first-edition Harry Potter book you bought when the series was first coming out, then keep hold of it. They can also now fetch up to $50,000 today.
