The heartbreaking incident occurred at Chabahar Konarak airport in southern Iran, while mechanic Abolfazl Amiri was performing a routine maintenance check.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Amiri was reportedly retrieving a tool near the aircraft, and was tragically pulled into the running engine.

Reports add that the engine caught fire shortly thereafter, and despite efforts by the airport fire brigade, Amiri died and his remains were recovered at the scene.

The Iranian aviation authority has launched an investigation into this devastating accident.

Bild adds the plane had arrived from Tehran at 7.15AM (local time) and the right-hand engine was turned on for a test run after all the passengers had disembarked.

The cover flaps were open and a safety perimeter had been set up around the engine, as is expected.

This incident tragically mirrors another recent event at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, where a person died after climbing into the engine of a KLM Cityhopper Embraer E190 aircraft back in May.

Witnesses described a horrifying scene as the plane, preparing for departure to Denmark. Emergency services responded swiftly, but the individual could not be saved.

Passengers and crew on board the KLM flight witnessed the distressing incident during the plane's taxiing phase. KLM expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating at the time: "Today there was a horrible incident at Schiphol in which a person ended up in a running aircraft engine. Sadly, the person has died."

A subsequent investigation by authorities revealed that the individual, "intentionally climbed into the engine, indicating this is a case of suicide".
