Viral Kate Middleton and Prince William video sparks calls for her to ‘divorce’ him immediately
A viral moment between Kate Middleton and Prince William during a recent royal engagement has prompted some viewers to call for the Princess of Wales to ‘divorce’ her husband.
The royal couple was visiting the Isle of Bute in Scotland when the interaction took place, with footage from the engagement subsequently spreading across social media.
Social media urges Princess of Wales to divorce the heir apparent
While some royalists saw nothing unusual in the clip, other viewers claimed William appeared to be 'disrespectful' towards Kate, prompting a surprisingly heated debate about the future of the couple's relationship.
It was the heir apparent and Kate’s first official visit to the Scottish island, where they met local residents, volunteers, and community groups in Rothesay.
As is customary during royal engagements, the couple spent time speaking with members of the public as they made their way through the area, with Kate appearing particularly keen to chat with those gathered along the route, stopping to speak with several people despite the couple having a packed schedule.
However, footage shared by Kings Guard Tours showed Kate speaking to members of the public while William stood nearby, capturing the future king gesturing towards his watch, seemingly indicating that it was time for them to move on to the next part of their engagement.
While the account presenting the footage interpreted the moment as a playful interaction between the married couple, it proved divisive amongst viewers.
Once the clip began circulating online, some social media users accused William of behaving disrespectfully towards his wife.
A number of commenters went considerably further, with some suggesting Kate should leave the future King and explicitly calling for a divorce.
One person wrote on X: “This is beyond embarrassing and shows how he doesn’t respect her OMG. The fact he has no issue doing this in public imagine how he treats her in private.”
Another viewer said: “This is disgusting. I used to love him but I can’t defend this.”
Someone else compared the apparent interaction with the troubled relationship between William's parents, Charles and Diana, writing: “That’s actually really embarrassing for her! This is how Charles was with Diana!”
The comments quickly turned what appeared to be a fleeting moment during a busy royal engagement into a much bigger discussion about William and Kate's marriage.
Others didn't see any issue at all
However, not everyone cast the royal’s relationship into doubt, with plenty of people claiming that the reaction was completely disproportionate.
One commenter argued that William was simply reminding Kate that they had to stick to their schedule, writing: “Normal interaction between a husband and wife where the wife is too busy chatting and they have to get a move on. If this is shocking or disturbing to anyone then you all need to get out more.”
Another dismissed the controversy entirely: “Making a mountain out of a molehill. They were running late!!!”
The speculation comes after years of scrutiny over the couple’s relationship. With their relationship spanning over 25 years, there have been several rumors of rifts appearing between them, however, they appear to still be going strong regardless.
